Ad hoc query is the user according to their own needs, flexible choice of query conditions, the system can generate the corresponding statistical reports according to the user’s choice. The biggest difference between ad-hoc query and ordinary application query is that ordinary application query is customized development, while ad-hoc query is defined by the user’s own query conditions.

There are many ways to generate AD hoc query, the most common is to use AD hoc query platform, general data analysis tools will provide the function of AD hoc query. In a data warehouse system, the more ad-hoc queries are used, the higher the requirements for the data warehouse and the higher the requirements for the symmetry of the data model.

Smart software SmartBI impromptu query function is I use the domestic BI tool to do better, here I will demonstrate the steps to achieve impromptu query with SmartBI:

New AD hoc query

The system supports four portals to create AD hoc queries:

Entry 1: select AD hoc query from the system drop-down menu.

Entry 2: select AD hoc query from the system shortcut menu.

Entrance 3: Select Analysis Display in the “System Navigation Bar”, expand the Resource Directory area, open more operations in the existing folder, and select New Analysis > Impromptu Query.

Entry 4: Select AD hoc query in the main menu of “Analysis and Display” interface.

Entry 5: in the table tree directory area of the “business topic” interface, in the “business topic” interface for more operations, select new analysis > AD hoc query.

Second, select data sources

The data sources supported by ad-hoc queries include data sources and business topics.

Selecting the data source is the data basis for the AD hoc query definition.

After expanding the Business Topic or Data Source tree in the Select Data Source window, double-click to select a specific business topic or data source.

Third, field selection

The field selection determines what the AD hoc query will present.

The system supports ad-hoc query selection of fields with the following two entries:

Entry 1: Check the field directly in the field selection panel.

Entry 2: Select a field in the pop-up “Field Selection” window through the field selection function button.

Four, conditional selection

Conditional selection refers to setting conditional options for the current AD hoc query to achieve the effect of filtering data. Currently, two types of conditions are supported:

Field conditions: Conditions generated based on fields or business properties;

Filter conditions: Conditions based on filter generation.

Report form design and graphic design

Report design is a general term for design definition of all elements in AD hoc queries.

Graphic design is not a necessary element in AD hoc queries, but is often used as an auxiliary representation of data, and can be designed by the user as needed.

Impromptu query steps are so simple, in terms of data query, SmartBI also provides support for cross-library query, interface data management capabilities and high-speed caching mechanism, etc., is very powerful and can meet the needs of a variety of data analysis.
