Bluetooth enables some portable mobile devices and computer devices today to connect to the Internet without cable, and to access the Internet wirelessly! Bluetooth may be the way we get our hands on these awesome wireless keyboards, mice, and AIrPods, but sometimes you may run into problems that simply reconnecting your device won’t solve. If you experience bluetooth problems on macOS Big Sur, reset the Bluetooth. Here’s how to reset Bluetooth:

Ready to reset bluetooth

1. Click the Control Center icon on the Mac menu bar

2. Drag the Bluetooth section to the menu bar

This is the fastest way to get the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar, but there are two other options.

You can click the Control Center, select Bluetooth, select Bluetooth Preferences, and then check show Bluetooth in the menu bar.

Alternatively, you can go to System Preferences, Dock & Menu Bar, Bluetooth, and check Show Bluetooth in Menu Bar.

Either way, the goal is to get Bluetooth into the menu bar, as this gives you further control. Apple tends to hide extra controls that only appear when you press certain buttons.

In this case, you can use the following keys directly in the new Control Center, but it won’t produce all the results you get by clicking the menu bar icon.

How do I reset Bluetooth in macOS

1. Connect a wired keyboard, preferably with a trackpad or mouse

2. Hold down the Shift and Option keys, then click the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar

3. Select Reset Bluetooth module from the long menu that appears

4. Click OK to confirm

5. Restart your Mac

Since this does reset Bluetooth completely, your next job is to start connecting the device again. Click the same Bluetooth icon in the menu bar, and then select Preferences.

Will list all bluetooth devices that are open, discoverable, and in Mac range. Browse through the list and add each one you want in turn.

The other options

Happy to tell you that this cures all Bluetooth problems, but we have to figure out how it cures most of them.

However, if you still experience problems, there are other options in the Bluetooth menu. Clicking the Bluetooth menu bar icon after holding down the Shift and Option keys also lets you remove all devices and restore all connected Apple devices to factory Settings.
