Clearly remember before someone spray my matching color like a turd, I feel very reasonable, so on the Internet search for a variety of matching color articles, read a lot, and then my matching color is still like a turd!

Because all I see is — red represents blood, vitality; Blue represents science and technology, the future; Green represents health and so on, there are red and blue contrast color, red and orange adjacent color and so on!

Do these theories work? The answer is yes, useful, but I think it is ok to see it once or twice, if you see it every day, your color matching potential will be trapped in the body, suffocating uncomfortable!

The near future consulted a few colleagues, friend about the method that match color, plus oneself practice, sum up, share a few earthing gas, the point with stronger practical operation sex!

The outline is as follows:

1. Color mode selection

2. Try not to touch the color forbidden area

3. The color should not be too straight

4. Use overlay mode well

1. Color mode selection

Color mode is a way to record color, divided into many kinds: RGB mode, CMYK mode, HSB mode, Lab color mode, bitmap mode, gray mode, index color mode……

The HSB mode I use most often, because it is simple, intuitive and easy to control.

In HSB, H represents hue, S represents saturation, and B generation indicates degree.

H (hue) total 360, because the color plate is 360 degrees, one hue at a time:

The kaleidoscopic colors are all caused by the difference between S(saturation) and B (brightness).

Why is HSB simple, intuitive and easy to control?

Let’s say we pick three colors at random, 360, 23, 280

We can easily tell that the saturation and brightness of the middle color are different from those of the other two colors. The values are as follows:

At this time, we just lower the S of the middle color and raise its B, and we can make the three colors more harmonious, you see:

This is why I say the HSB model is straightforward and easy to control.

2. Try not to touch the color forbidden area

After consulting many people, I found that there are forbidden zones when they use color. Different people have different opinions. I roughly divide them into three types: triangle forbidden zone, rectangle forbidden zone and fan forbidden zone (red is forbidden zone), as shown below:

In fact, it is not difficult to find that no matter what kind of color, the bottom right corner of the basic color is rarely used, because they are thick and dirty, it is difficult to control (certainly not rule out some masters can control any color)!

Here is an example. Here is a bell I rendered in C4D. The dark part looks too black and not transparent, actually because of the forbidden color in the dark part:

We will adjust the dark color to the non-forbidden color:

Here’s what it looks like in action:

This will make the whole bell color match more comfortable.

3. The color should not be too straight

In terms of hue, because people often see very positive colors (red and purple), there will be some aesthetic fatigue, so I try to avoid using too positive colors when choosing colors, especially when pulling the gradient, such as hue, green with yellow:

Blue with purple:

In addition to hue, saturation and brightness can also be adjusted accordingly.

For an instant chestnut, I originally used a very strong red color for the background of this image:

It’s pretty hot for your eyes. I’m going to lower the saturation and see what it looks like:

It’ll look a lot better!

4. Use overlay mode well

In the past, I rarely used color overlay mode, mostly used multiply.

When embedding the image in a light background, I usually reduce the opacity of the image directly, as shown below:

This will make the whole picture very dirty. Later, IT turns out that many overlay modes are very useful, such as “soft light”, “bright” and so on. For example, I changed the mode in the following image to soft light.

It’s much cleaner!

Add a bit of typography and, well, the cover:

More modes we can try more, in different scenarios to choose the most suitable for their own mode!

Well, the above is today to share a little personal experience about color matching, not what rules ah, methodology ah, only for reference, see you next time!
