MacOS Monterey 12 will be released on October 26th. Here are 7 new features to look forward to.

01. Quick memo

On Both macOS 12 and iPadOS 15, there are features that allow you to quickly set up a memo or add web content to a memo with one click, making it easy to jot down your daily assignments without interrupting your flow.

On macOS 12, just move the mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen and a white square appears. Tap and you’ll see a quick memo edit screen, where you type in what you want to record, close it and continue with the original task.

The next time you have something to record, open it again, and it will be the same as before, not a new quick memo.

If it is a web page, you can also add the selected text to the quick memo with one click, which can be quickly accessed in the future.

02. Power saving mode

Power saving mode was first introduced on macOS 12, and while the power consumption and battery life of Apple’s Silicon M1 chip is certainly impressive, it will last longer if it can be turned on.

👉 Don’t worry, both macOS 12 and iPadOS 15 have power-saving modes

03. AirPlay projection to Mac

In the past, we could only use AirPlay to project images from Macs, ipads and iphones onto TVS and Apple TVS, but with macOS 12 and iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, the Mac is now the target of AirPlay projection, too. As long as the devices are on the same network, you can select the Mac as the AirPlay projection object in the AirPlay list.

Safari TAB group function

While the new Version of Safari has gone back and forth a few times from Beta 1 to RC to official release, the TAB groups are pretty much the same and pretty good from the start.

Safari’s TAB groups allow you to group different types of web pages into different categories, opening and switching whole batches of pages at once when needed, and helping you stay focused on your current task at work.

Porting to macOS shortcuts

The Shortcut feature, which has worked well on the iPhone, has now been ported to macOS 12.

For example, if I often need to split Safari and Memo left and right, I can set up a shortcut to split the window and place the icon on the menu bar. Then when I click the icon on the menu bar, Safari and memo will automatically be called and arranged left and right.

Although there are some functions that are not open to use in shortcut, for example, we can not use shortcut to set the power saving mode, but in the future, there should be more functions and applications to be discovered.

06. Original text

Background text is also a feature on macOS 12, iPadOS 15 and iOS 15. It allows you to recognize text on an image without typing, and then you can copy and paste and make phone calls.

07. Universal control

Common controls were not included in the official release of macOS 12, but we’ll give you an idea of what they are.

The main thing is that you can use a Mac to control another iPad or Mac, or even grab files from another iPad or Mac. The difference is that it’s not just an extended external screen, but it also has direct access to files on other machines.
