Recently, the authority consultancy Gartner released the first edge of the global competition in the field of calculation report, comprehensive analysis of global technology company in the field of edge computing layout and technical advantages, ali cloud, amazon, Microsoft, Google and other seven companies are all on the list, edge of computing the first camp, in leading the global technology and strategy.

Gartner predicts that by 2024, more than 50 percent of organizations will have deployed a very large scale cloud edge solution in at least one edge computing system and integrated with cloud computing, compared to less than 10 percent in 2021. Analysts believe that, although still in the early stages, more and more cloud vendors are adopting public cloud models and management systems to deploy edge computing.

With the arrival of 5G and the Internet of Things, hundreds of billions of various terminal devices have created a large amount of computing demands. Edge computing, with its advantages of “low delay, large bandwidth, large connection and localization”, has become the “hot property”. Unlike central computing, where computing power is highly concentrated, edge computing puts computing tasks closer to the client and becomes more competitive in terms of cost and latency.

Compared with foreign countries, domestic cloud manufacturers are more active in the layout of edge computing. Gartner pointed out in the report that Ali Cloud has more than 2,800 CDN nodes around the world converted to Edge Cloud Node (ENS) mode, provides more than 300 protocol drivers for IoT devices, and manages up to 100,000 Edge Nodes. Customers can create edge resources in minutes, reducing end-to-node response time to 5 milliseconds, and saving the hub more than 30 percent in bandwidth costs.

As one of the top three cloud manufacturers in the world, Aliyun began to build edge computing system based on its self-developed Feitian operating system as early as 2016. In 2018, Ali Cloud officially entered the field of edge computing technology, extending the advantages of cloud computing, artificial intelligence and IoT to edge computing, and creating cloud, edge and end integration collaborative computing services. After that, Aliyun successively launched edge cloud node ENS and edge computing node of the Internet of Things integrated with hardware and software to sink the cloud capability to the edge, solve local problems with the cloud capability, and reduce the delay and cost.

At the same time, Ali cloud is the definition and leader of domestic edge cloud. In December 2018, Aliyun and China Institute for Standardization of Electronic Technology of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly issued the White Paper on Edge Cloud Computing Technology and Standardization, which defined the concept, technical characteristics, application scenarios and standardization of “Edge Cloud Computing” for the first time in the industry. In 2019 and 2020, Ali Cloud became the first group of manufacturers to pass the Edge Cloud standard compliance test and service trust ability test, and at the same time took the lead in the development of the Edge Cloud national standard.

After years of deep cultivation, Ali cloud edge computing has evolved from the theory to the actual combat. In the field of transportation, Gansu Highway Traffic Construction Group utilizes the ability of Aliyun edge cloud +AI to process traffic video on the nearby cloud, reducing the video delay to 10 milliseconds, improving the efficiency of road safety incident processing by 80%, and greatly improving the service level. In the field of radio and television, the product “Cloud Miaow” cooperated by Wasu Media and Ali Cloud makes extensive use of the technical solution of Edge Cloud, allowing non-intelligent boxes in tens of thousands of homes to watch more content without upgrading.

It is reported that the edge cloud solutions jointly created by Ali Cloud and industry partners have been widely used in more than 10 industries such as cities, entertainment, e-commerce, games, sports, finance, government and enterprise, radio and television, and electric power.
