With more electronic data at home, NAS is more needed. NAS can be used to store things, freeing up the space of laptops, desktops, mobile phones and pads, and making it easy to share. Televisions can also play videos and pictures directly. In the past, I did my own DIY because of the cost performance. In fact, there are also good manufacturers to try products, mainly tried: Qunhui, Wei Unicom and Western Digital. Qunhui is expensive, QNAP has a good cost performance, while Western Digital has a better cost performance, but a slightly weaker ecology.

Recently, I bought a TS-453Bmini with Cyoung J3455 CPU, 4G memory, double gigabit network card, four hard disk bits and remote control. It has been used for a while and it is not bad. I summarize the problems and solutions I have encountered.

  • Emby Server for NAS-Emby: QNAP Server for NAS-Emby: QNAP Server for NAS-Emby: QNAP Server for NAS-Emby Emby download links in the Releases, MediaBrowser/emby Releases, at present the latest stable version is 4.4.3.0, can the local installation after download
  • It is best to set the location of the image resources well at the beginning, do not set too large range, the default recognition range is a little large, will recognize the cover image in the movie
  • If the amount of saving photos or migrating photos is large, it is best to do it before going to bed at night, because the generation of thumbnail, face recognition, object recognition is a special consumption of machine resources and time-consuming
  • Videos, especially foreign movies and TV series, can be processed by Tiny Media Management and then managed by Emby. It feels good. In fact, Emby can also be processed, but there are few controllable areas, which is not practical enough
  • The QNAP hardware supports HDMI, but there are a lot of bugs. Upgrade the system to 4.4. By default, the HybridDeskg Station tests sound effects well, but the Audio Station outputs only images without sound through HDMI. HD Player and Video Station have the same effect. After a long talk with customer service and technical engineers, I gave a kodi version. Kodi is ok and can be used normally
  • I have not been interested in RAID, weak controllability, high complexity, if not for engineering and business, it is better to use multiple backups at home, initially disable RAID in all QNAP NAS. QNAP can Backup data between QNAP and QNAP via RTRR service. It is very easy to use. All you need to do is install Hybrid Backup Sync 3 on both sides and start RTRR service inside. Then there is the manual or scheduled task of configuring backup and restore, which is directly between the two nas and is very useful for backing up important data
  • NAS with HDMI is very useful, plus a monitor can meet the needs of audio and video
  • Qsync’s ability to sync photos is also useful, freeing up space later on
  • At present stage more practical configuration combination is: TS-453Bmini+ Western number 4T blue disk
  • From the technical support reply, it is better to restart the machine every two weeks
  • How to use the video, install Kodi, Emby and Jellyfin on NAS, play sub-scenes:
    • Direct TV: Kodi + comes with a remote control and is a great match
    • Android phone: Emby client
    • Ios: Qvideo or VLC, the results are mediocre, you can also try Jellyfin, before it looks good
    • Notebook: Web directly, or Kodi is good, the latter directly web folder solution
  • It seems that the multi-user system is not much use, mainly for directory access, its own video app is not good, photo app is ok, music software is not sure whether to use
  • Jellyfin and Emby have the same port number. You need to change one of them to 8097, but everything that needs to be linked needs to be adjusted, even the jump in app Center
  • The power supply with random belt is too bulky, and then change to a lighter one

Overall, the footprint is small, do not read the hard disk almost noise is very small, the hardware performance is better, not feel slow.

Opengrok does not support the DART language.
