There has been no shortage of news about driverless cars and autonomous driving since 2018. Unlike last year, the news is all bad.

Not long ago, Uber “hit a person to death” case, is a big delay in the process of driverless cars. Nvidia, one of the world’s leading chipmakers, also officially announced earlier this morning that it would suspend testing of autonomous driving, wiping $11 billion off its market value.

AI has long been helping self-driving cars by monitoring the world around them. But evidence after evidence suggests that the road may be a bit bumpy.

Is this the end of ai-assisted driving? Not necessarily! Super writing assistant Satoshi Giiso has tracked down a company doing just that.

The following was compiled by Giiso writing robot:

Affectiva, an emotional AI company based in Boston, is trying to use AI to help monitor what’s going on inside cars.

They used RGB and near-infrared cameras to track facial expressions and head movements, such as happiness, anger and surprise, as well as vocal expressions of anger, excitement and laughter.

It can also tell if a driver is drowsy by tracking the rate of yawning, eye closure and blinking.

According to statistics, every day in the United States, more than 1,000 people are injured and 9 people die because of traffic accidents. And as many as 6,000 fatal crashes a year may be caused by drowsy drivers.

The company is currently training the vast amount of natural driver and passenger data Affectiva collects to ensure the model can be accurately executed in real-world automotive environments.

There is no doubt that with this AI system, the probability of traffic accidents will be reduced.

My guess is that this technology will be much easier to popularize than “driverless cars”. What do you think?
