Guest speaker: Yang Chuanhui (alias: Rizhao), researcher of Ant Group, founding member and chief Architect of OceanBase. Led the technical architecture design of OceanBase and realized the breakthrough of distributed database in core financial scene zero. He also led the OceanBase TPC-C test and broke the world record. Author of “Large-scale Distributed Storage Systems: Principles and Practice”. This time, he will bring more than ten years of professional thinking, looking forward to colliding ideas with you.

Relational databases have been around for more than 50 years since E.F.Codd proposed the relational model in 1970. Through the abstraction of relational model and transaction model, as well as SQL language, relational database almost dominates the world in the traditional industry, widely used in finance, operators, public utilities and other industries related to the national economy and people’s livelihood.

Traditional relational database adopts centralized architecture, supports complete database functions, and has high single-machine performance. Distributed database represented by Google Spanner introduces distributed protocols such as Paxos and 2PC, and realizes continuous availability and linear expansion based on ordinary PC server.

However, both Google Spanner and its open source imitators have neglected single-node performance and access latency. In addition to the distributed characteristics such as high availability and scalability, the next generation of distributed database has the same single-machine performance as the traditional centralized database. The pursuit of the ultimate cost performance will fundamentally affect the design of the next generation of distributed database, such as the need to adopt integrated design and C language implementation.
