The blockchain system, a distributed ledger used to support transaction data, is gradually transforming into a platform technology, much like consumer network routing during the first Internet boom. In fact, blockchain technology is already widely used in many fields, including the “Internet of Things”. On the other hand, cryptocurrencies (digital assets) and ICOs have also attracted a lot of people’s attention, because they lower the threshold of entry for people and also solve many traditional business problems.

Amanda Coolong is chief Content Officer and co-chair of the board of Women in Technology International (WITI) anda global authority on Women in STEM. She has been an active advocate for women’s contributions to the tech industry and has inspired more women to pursue careers in STEM fields, as well as guiding corporate partners to build inclusive and equitable workplace cultures.

John Furrier, host of SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile streaming studio theCUBE, spoke with Coolong at Samsung’s Developer conference in San Francisco about where blockchain technology might be used, And can play what great value.

The application of blockchain in the Internet of Things

While blockchain technology was initially used to power cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, the technology could expand to many other industries, from supply chain management to healthcare technology. According to Coolong, any iot system that can connect multiple devices will generate heavy transaction data, and distributed ledger systems powered by blockchain technology can support these systems.

Coolong explains:

“I’ve been looking at the relationship between blockchain and the Internet of Things, which is based on distributed ledger technology and is able to support any ‘transactional’ thing.”

As consumer technology shifts to iot technology, more and more people are paying attention to the security of iot devices. Coolong added that security solutions based on blockchain technology can better solve logistics security issues. She concluded:

“I think Internet of Things security is a big issue, and we’re going to see more and more blockchain Internet of Things security solutions being used, because security is very useful for the Internet of Things, especially when you’re thinking about edge computing, and sending back data.”
