MX Linux 18 is one of my main recommendations among the best Linux distributions, especially when you are considering distributions other than Ubuntu.

It’s based on Debian 9.6 “Stretch” and has an incredibly fast and smooth experience.

Now, as a major upgrade to this release, MX Linux 19 brings a number of major improvements and changes. Here, we take a look at the main highlights.

New features in MX Linux 19

Debian 10 “arcade”

This is worth mentioning because Debian 10 is actually a major upgrade to the Debian 9.6 “Stretch” on which MX Linux 18 is based.

If you’re curious about the changes to the Debian 10 Buster, I suggest you read about the new features of the Debian 10 Buster.

Xfce desktop 4.14

Xfce 4.14 is just the latest product from the Xfce development team. Personally, I’m not a fan of the Xfce desktop environment, but you’ll be amazed at its super-fast performance when you use it on Linux distributions, especially MX Linux 19.

Upgrade package and the latest Debian kernel 4.19

In addition to updated packages for GIMP, MESA, Firefox, and more, it also comes with the latest kernel 4.19 available for Debian Buster.

Upgraded MX series applications

If you’ve used MX Linux before, you probably know that it comes preloaded with a useful MX family of applications that can help you get more done quickly.

Applications such as MX-Installer and MX-PackageInstaller have been significantly improved.

In addition to these two, all other MX tools have been updated to varying degrees, fixing bugs, adding new translations (or simply improving the user experience).

Other improvements

Given that this is a major upgrade, it’s clear that there are more changes underneath than on the surface (including the latest antiX Live system update).

conclusion

On MX Linux 18, I had a problem with the WiFi adapter and resolved the issue through the forums, but it seems MX Linux 19 still hasn’t solved the problem. So if you’re experiencing the same problem after installing MX Linux 19, you might want to check out my forum posts.

If you’re using MX Linux 18, this is definitely an impressive upgrade.
