Since I started blogging regularly in 2016, I’ve been bombarded with similar questions from readers: Why do you, as a technical lead, have so much time to blog? Blogger, do you blog late every day? Can you talk about how you manage your time? The frequency of sensory output is very high.

Since we’re all so curious, let’s talk today.

01 Accumulate more at ordinary times

Let’s start with the fact that writing a technical article can take a lot of time. Sometimes it takes 8 hours to write a technical article, it’s normal for a more in-depth article to take a few days, but sometimes it only takes a few hours.

Here’s a screenshot of what I wrote to a blogosphere reader back in 2017:

As a matter of fact, the above picture has shown some reasons, as long as we accumulate more in daily life, we can save a lot of time when writing articles.

For example, when I first started to write Spring Boot/Cloud, it was because our company needed to use Spring Boot/Cloud technology a lot. During our practice, I would record the process, key points and thinking in Cloud notes from time to time. All you need to do when writing an article is to sort it out.

Therefore, I always encourage friends who write technical blogs to write as much as possible helpful to the work, or the results of practice in the work, on the one hand, convenient for us to accumulate materials, on the one hand, better promote the work.

This is good for both myself and the company. You can see that over 90% of my technical posts on my blog come from work, otherwise I wouldn’t have the time to reresearch a new technology and then reorganize, learn and publish it.

The prerequisite, however, is that the company must have a good technology culture and be keen to use the latest technology to solve problems. But in the two companies I worked for, I was basically in technical management positions, so the technology climate was not a problem, and the company always encouraged people to adopt new technologies.

02 Focus leads to productivity

I don’t know what it is like for other technical managers. When I was in technical management, it was almost impossible to have your own time during the day. Between 10:00 am and 6:00 PM, all kinds of things would interrupt your work rhythm.

For example, the department has called you for a meeting. A programmer is having a technical problem; Production suddenly appeared some unstable alarm; The business department has a problem and hopes to help promote it. There are several interviews for technical managers that need to be prepared and so on. It’s almost impossible to have a continuous time of your own.

So during that time, if you’re programming or writing, it’s very inefficient. You can imagine, you’re thinking about a problem, and someone says, “Should I get a credit card?” This feeling is really want to punch ya.

It’s even better when you’re sitting next to other business units. Sounds of loud discussion, talking on the phone, eating, typing. That’s why so many office programmers need to wear headphones to work.

So for me, there are generally two periods can be used for writing or programming, company 9:00 in the morning before I go to work, I usually will be around 8:00 in the morning to the company, a two hours from 8:00 to 10:00, around 6 PM after work, I usually go home at 9 o ‘clock, it will have three hours of time.

You can do a lot of things in 2-3 hours of focused time, if you prepare your materials in advance and write a technical article. If there is something that needs to be checked and positioned in daily work, I will generally deal with it during this period.

Don’t deal with email in the morning. It takes too long to respond to emails. In general, I receive more than 100 emails a day, and there are more than ten emails to reply. The process of reply also needs to find relevant personnel to confirm, and a few hours will pass without paying attention.

Therefore, when doing daily time management, leave yourself a period of continuous time to focus on one thing, which can get twice the result with half the effort.

Love can insist

When many people ask me how I find the time to write, my first impulse is to ask rhetorically, although it’s not very polite.

Such as:

How do you have enough time to scroll tiktok?

Why do you have so much time to play games?

How do you have so much time to watch TV?

I believe that no matter how busy they are, there are people who do it in their spare time. When you ask them why they have time to do it, most of them will say, I like it, to relax. After a day’s work, isn’t it time to relax? Yeah, that’s it.

This is how I write articles and blogs.

In fact, I also like to brush Douyin, like playing games, like watching all kinds of TV series. But I prefer to play blog, write articles like is far higher than brush trill, play games, so for me, blog is to relax, and readers in the article below is interactive entertainment, see article will be a lot of people will have a sense of achievement, so blog brings me pleasure than in other, so slowly for those who are interested in a little pale.

Ignore the little things in life

Sometimes my friends and I feel that life is too monotonous. I work overtime every day during the week, and I have to write articles and courses in my spare time. Besides going to the movies, THERE is almost no other spare life.

And all the other time I could have saved.

Almost omit the entertainment, travel, shopping and other time, even like the clothes, I can buy a lot of pieces, such as a black short sleeve, I almost bought a dozen at home, colleagues may see I wear the same clothes every day, do not know the friends still think I do not change.

My wife takes care of most of the trivia in my life, so I don’t worry much about it. Save time to focus on work and writing articles, and focus on what you love to do.

So people ask me where I get my time from. In fact, THIS is how I save it. I ignore all the things I don’t like, so I can focus on the things I like to do with the saved time.

05 end

This is why I have so much time to write blog, I don’t know what you think after reading it, feel free to leave a comment, because interaction is one of my leisure ways 🙂

Plus, it’s great to keep doing something.
