A professional CV must highlight your skills, experience, work history and significant achievements so that HR can judge whether you are a good fit for the position.

At the same time, remember that every word in your resume should serve a purpose. If something doesn’t fit on your resume, don’t leave it off.

Here are some of the things that don’t fit on a resume, in the hope that you can revise your resume after reading them.

01

It is not recommended to include your home address on your resume because your personal information could fall into the wrong hands in some way.

But if you’re applying for a local job, you can include your city on your resume to show that you’re more qualified. But if you’re applying for a job that doesn’t depend on location, it’s advisable not to include your home address on your resume, and you may even be rejected because of your location.

02

If you want to show off your skills on your resume, you should include hard skills, i.e. the ability to have relevant evaluation criteria. That’s not to say that soft skills aren’t important, but it’s not recommended that you add them to your resume. Instead, write a cover letter and include them in the work experience section of your cover letter.

03

If the HR knows you have a reference, they will definitely ask about it at the appropriate time. Don’t waste your resume on references’ contact information or testimonials.

04

Good looking is important, as is readability. Choose a professional and simple font, such as Microsoft Yahei and Song Typeface. This ensures that the resume is legible to the recipient.

05

Unless your company says you don’t have to go back to high school for your education section on your resume, because if you have a college degree, you have already graduated from high school.

However, if you had a special experience in high school or earned a great honor, you can include it on your resume.

06

Many job seekers make the mistake of applying for a second job using terms, titles, or acronyms they used at their previous employers. These terms may not be as common in the industry, so it can lead to confusion about what you’re trying to convey.

07

Your resume is your chance to present yourself to the employer as a job seeker. It may make a first impression on the employer, so it is best to use a professional email address when you send your resume.

If you’re still using email addresses like [email protected] and [email protected] that look like they’re used in high school, it’s time to apply for a professional email address.
