This is a blog with artists sharing tips on how to speed up the Octane rendering process.

Here are some important tips for using Octane in Cinema 4D.

01. Obtain a large number of Gpus

Octane requires a dedicated Nvidia GPU to use

Octane is the reason I built my own PC for the first time in 15 years. Octane is a GPU-based renderer, which means it leverages the power of game cards to improve rendering speed. Octane’s license is per-machine, but you can build PCS with up to 12 Gpus (graphics cards). Currently, the graphics card must be Nvidia. But they can be mixed and matched according to what is available.

02. Web rendering

Network rendering can be easily set up using Octane

To use Octane, try to install at least two graphics cards on your computer, one for driving the screen and one for Octane only. What if your machine only has one GPU? For example, if you’re working on a laptop. Octane’s web rendering is very good. As long as you have an Octane license for every computer on the network. Octane can use the GPU on all machines for every part of the process from live preview to final rendering.

03. Use Octane independent materials for construction

Use the Octane Standalone app to build the material

Octane standalone applications are definitely a secondary requirement. However, this does not mean that it should be ignored. Especially because of the.orbx file format. Files can be easily swapped from a host application (typically Cinema 4D) to a standalone application. A big advantage of the standalone version is the UI it provides for building materials that can be used in all Octane application instances.

04. Use a mix of materials

Octane’s blend of materials is ideal for creating complex materials

Blends are powerful because they allow combinations of simple materials to be superimposed into a kind of “supermaterial.” Blending of materials can be controlled through the Octane or program tools in the image map, and blending materials can be used in other blending materials to provide nearly unlimited control when creating textures in the Octane.

5. Use the LiveDB

LiveDB is an excellent resource for quickly setting up data

When time is too tight to create material from scratch. It’s nice to know that you can use the “LiveDB” material database that comes with Octane to create the starting point you need. From metal, fabric, liquid and skin, LiveDB will have a preset of available materials that can be downloaded into your scene to help you get the job done.

In addition, you can consider cloud rendering services that use Renderbus Cloud rendering. If you need another machine to help you render while your computer is still working, you should use our services. Or, if you don’t want to worry about artwork deadlines and focus on your design, you can use our servers to improve the rendering process.
