“This is the 23rd day of my participation in the Gwen Challenge in November. Check out the details: The Last Gwen Challenge in 2021”

This article describes how to install CentOS7 for VMware 15.5 PRO

First, resource preparation

1. Software preparation

VMware 15

CentOS – 7 – x86_64 – DVD – 1511-7.2 mirror

2. Hardware requirements

Running VMware on a host host and installing CentOS have certain requirements on the host host. Multi-core CPUS, 8 GB memory, and more than 500 GB hard disks are recommended. You can view CPU, memory, and disk configuration and usage in task Manager.

Second, the installation

1. Prepare VMS

  1. Start the VMware single machine and create a VM

  1. Typical versus custom installation

Typical (Recommended)(T) : Create a VM quickly in simple steps. VMware will apply mainstream configuration to the VM OS, suitable for beginners

Custom installation: Users can create a SPECIFIED VM OS based on their own requirements

  1. Select vm hardware compatibility

In this step, select vm hardware compatibility based on your VMware version to avoid vm incompatibility during vm replication. Click Next

  1. Select the Installation CD-ROM mapping file (ISO)

This step is to select the operating system image file we downloaded, after selecting do not click next, choose to install the operating system later.

  1. Select install the operating system later

Choose to install the operating system later we can choose the client operating system later to make it more compatible. Click Next

  1. Select the client operating system

Here is CentOS7 64-bit operating system, select the correct client operating system configuration and click next

  1. Naming a VM

The first step is to name the VM and the second is to select the storage address of the VM (the drive letter is recommended. By default, it is an installation address of drive C) for easy management and differentiation

  1. Processor configuration

This step is to allocate CPU resources for the currently installed VM. You can customize the CPU resources based on the host configuration and the learning purpose of the current VM installation. After selecting the CPU resources, click Next

  1. Memory configuration

This step is to allocate the memory size for the installed VM. You can customize the memory size based on the host configuration and the purpose of learning the current VM installation. After selecting the memory size, click Next

  1. Network Connection Type

There are four types of network types: bridge, NAT, host-only, and no network connection. The simple differences between these types are as follows:

  • Bridge -> Level with the host. There are two types of bridge modes. One is to directly connect the VM network interface card (NIC) to the physical network, and the other is to bridge the VM network through a virtual network
  • NAT -> VMS communicate with external networks through the host. This function is equivalent to adding a switch between VMS and physical servers. NAT automatically translates VM IP addresses into IP addresses on the same network segment as those of physical servers
  • In this mode, internal VMS are connected to VMnet1, a virtual network interface card (NIC) that provides DYNAMIC Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) functions. VMnet1 functions as a switch and forwards data packets from VMS to physical nics, but the physical nics do not forward the data packets. Therefore, the host-only mode can only be used for communication between VMS or between VMS and physical machines.
  • Do not use the network ->……

Let’s select the bridge network here and click Next

  1. Select an I/O type

Select the default LSI Logic(L) recommendation and click Next

  1. Disk type

Select the default SCSI(S) recommendation and click Next

  1. Select the disk

We select Create a new VM disk and click Next

Specify the maximum disk size (based on your requirements and configuration), select to split the virtual disk into multiple files, and click Next

We use the default name for the disk name

  1. Custom hardware

Many of the hardware in the VIRTUAL machine is not used by us. We remove it by customizing the hardware.

We can remove the sound card, printer and so on. The sound card has been removed by me (I forgot the screenshot, you can click Add and add back if you feel you need it). After customization, click Finish.

  1. The VM is created

After the VM is created, you can view the vm and vm configurations on the computer. To facilitate vm management, right-click the computer and create a folder to manage VMS in groups.

2. CentOS installation

  1. Select the ISO image file again

Select the newly created virtual machine on my computer and right click to select Settings

By selecting CD/DVD(IDE), we change the default autocheck to use the ISO image file, select the image file we downloaded (the image file used to install the VIRTUAL machine), and click OK

  1. Starting a VM

Click to start the VIRTUAL machine

Three options appear, we select Install CentOS 7(the first one), then type Enter(Enter) and wait for the system to initialize. Note here, if your mouse is missing, don’t worry, use Ctrl + Alt to release it.

  1. Language and keyboard selection

I choose the English version here, because the company generally uses the English version. If you don’t like it, you can choose the Chinese version and click Continue after selecting it

  1. Set the time

Select Asia, Shanghai, Shanghai. You can manually modify the time and date. You can select the time in 24-hour or AM/PM format, and click Done

  1. Software installation

Select the software we need to install

To facilitate operation, select Server with GUI and click Done

  1. The disk partition

Select INSTALLATION DESTINATION to partition disks

Select I will configure partionning. The default option is Auto. Change it to I will Configure partionning and click Done

Allocate /boot partition disk size

The disk size of the allocated/directory

The size of GB is not so accurate, there will be irregular disk space. For example, IN my error demonstration, I corrected the use of MB release as follows:

Click Done to finally assign the finished diagram

In the dialog box that is displayed, click Accept Changes

  1. Nic information and host name Settings

Click NETWORK & HOST NAME

Click OFF to put the switch in the position of ON to check whether the network information can be correctly obtained

To modify the hostname, click Done

  1. The installation

Click Begin Installation to start the Installation -> Installation takes some time, we can do other things slightly…

Select the ROOT PASSWORD

Creating an Administrator

Three, the installation of two problems
