Depth is a beautiful desktop environment with an intuitive UI. The UbuntuDDE project combines the power and depth of Ubuntu’s beauty.

Deep Desktop Environment (DDE) is a beautiful desktop environment created by the developers of Deep Linux. Initially, Deep Linux was based on Ubuntu, but later they switched to Debian.

One of the main problems with Deep Linux is its slow download server. Regular systems take hours to download because all their servers are in China and they are unfortunately extremely slow.

If you want to use the deep desktop, there is nothing to stop you from installing it on a regular Ubuntu system. Ubuntu tries to make it easier by giving you a deep desktop experience right out of the box on top of Ubuntu. This will save you time and effort installing and configuring deep desktops on Ubuntu.

Ubuntu DDE: Ubuntu’s powerful and deep desktop is beautiful

Please note that UbuntuDDE is not an official Ubuntu variant. The Ubuntu developers have nothing to do with the Ubuntu team. Ubuntu de is currently a hybrid distribution, with the goal of being accepted as an official Ubuntu variant in future distributions.

The UbuntuDDE developers were joined by Alan Pope from the Ubuntu Snapcraft team, the Ubuntu Budgie team, and the Ubuntu Cinnamon team, among other developers, Such as Hualet Wang and Felix Yan.

In a conversation with FOSS, its lead developer Arun stressed that the focus of the project is to regularly maintain Ubuntu’s DDE package and help users enjoy the full joy of DDE (deep desktop environment).

Arun also mentioned that the Ubuntu/Deep hybrid project starts with maintaining and packaging the latest releases from upstream, the Deep repository. Then, it finally combined with Ubuntu 20.04 Focal to produce an image file that anyone could install without having to go through the hassle of installing regular Ubuntu first and then deep Desktop. Ubuntu is not only a combination of DDE and Ubuntu, but also a blend of the Ubuntu team’s package selection and design changes.

Unlike Deepin Linux, Ubuntu De does not use the Deep App Store. It switched to the Ubuntu software Center. If you’ve been spooked by this spyware rumor from Wuhan-based Deep Linux, this should be good news.

Download Ubuntu 20.04 Beta

Ubuntu De aims to release the first official stable release with Ubuntu 20.04. Like other Ubuntu variants, Ubuntu 20.04 Beta is also available to download and try.

Warning!

A word of warning. UbuntuDDE is a new project in development. Please do not use it on your primary system. If you do, use it on a virtual machine or standby system.

Since it is Ubuntu in nature, installing Ubuntu is the same as installing Ubuntu. You can refer to this tutorial, which shows how to install Ubuntu in VirtualBox.

I know you might think this is “just another Ubuntu” or “just the depth on Ubuntu, anyone can do it”. But I also know that a small percentage of users like Ubuntu projects, which make things easier for them. I mean there are a lot of Ubuntu variants that come out that way. What do you think?
