Project Treble Project

Since launching with Android Oreo in 2017, Project Treble has significantly reduced the amount of adaptation required by device vendors and chip vendors for Android updates, making development and deployment faster than in the past. In addition, we have been actively working with device vendors to define vendor interfaces (VINTF) to decouple vendor code from framework code on Android devices.

AOSP source code

We will continue to make GSI easier to access and more powerful for app developers. For example, Google will offer developers an early trial of the next version of Android via GSI and allow developers to run the build on Treble enabled Android 9 Pie devices. This way, developers can start developing and testing applications before Google provides the source code for AOSP.

If you want to try GSI right away, read the documentation for detailed tutorials on how to compile GSI yourself and write it to a Treble support device.
