Five years ago, bald

Five years ago, I created an open source project, HelloGitHub, and it all started from zero:

  • From zero commits to over 100 changes
  • From zero projects to over 1500 projects
  • From zero to 39,000 stars
  • From 0 readers to you “reading” this article

Old fans may remember that I wrote an article about HelloGitHub and ME in 2019 when I first started the “HelloGitHub official account”, introducing the original intention and experience of launching this project. I quote in that article:

The best time to plant a tree was ten years ago, followed by now.

Five years ago I recommended my first open source project on the bald HelloGitHub site, which now has 1,574 recommended projects. Are there any open source projects where you’ve found programming fun?

Five years old, big boy

HelloGitHub turns 5 this Sunday:

“You are no longer two or three years old. You should be sensible in the future.”

A few years ago, a senior asked me, “How does HelloGitHub make money?”

I remember particularly clearly, I said: “I raise him!” The senior smiled.

Then I learned: love + income = live

“When you grow up, you should help your little brothers and sisters.”

For 5 years, HelloGitHub has added a monthly magazine. Do:

  • Explain the open source project series: let the little white readers through pictures and texts, can run the open source project, experience the fun of open source
  • Hello tutorials for advanced technology: HelloDjango, HelloZooKeeper, etc., hope that through these tutorials, the knowledge in the open source community can help students who have a certain programming foundation and want to improve their technical progress
  • Open Source project Collection: a collection of projects in a topic or category that will make you a dime
  • Daily picks: We will bring interesting open source projects to people who love open source and technology through short content every day
  • Hot Trends: Catch the hot items on GitHub this week

For:

Let more people find the fun of open source and help interesting open source projects to be discovered

In the past five years, the words “open source”, “open source project” and “open source community” have changed from sporadic flashes to frequent occurrences. There have been more and more hot events and media reports related to open source, and many large factories have launched their own open source projects. There are more and more people on open source, so… When will you join us?

After 5 years, it’s not enough!

Five years is not enough!

Five more years is not enough!

I said: “then spend the rest of your life together strong!”

HelloGitHub is still a child and will make mistakes and go wrong. Please give it more time and patience. Plan for the next 5 years:

  1. Build a fun open source community
  2. Open source author interview series
  3. Launch more Hello tutorials
  4. Help developers and open source projects

For the first five years, you weren’t involved. In the next five years, I hope you will be there to witness the growth of HelloGitHub.

Thank you for the 5th anniversary! Five years late for the first conversation
