I have always admired the 27-inch iMac used by my company’s UI, and when I walk past their large and clear screen, I often wonder what it would be like to program on this large and clear screen. On the night of June 18, I was checking iMac prices on Amazon with my Chrome, and I felt the heat coming from my five-year-old Dell laptop on my keyboard. In the WeChat group, we were discussing what good goods we robbed today. I suddenly thought that I had not bought anything for myself for a long time. Was it too cruel to myself? So I clenched my teeth and put the IMA27 in the shopping cart……

At 10 a.m., Amazon delivered a neatly packed large box. The box was heavy, but luckily I could carry it home by myself.

When the neat cowhide carton was opened, we found that the apple was always beautifully packaged:

System migration

The iMac’s instructions are only one page long. One of the most important pieces of information is that it tells us where the switch is behind the screen. Put the iMac on your desk, plug it in, and we’re ready to start. The initialization process is mostly the same as in Windows, but the data migration feature is a very human feature worth mentioning:

Use the new computer the most trouble is need to install a lot of software, if before the rest of your apple computer, use the function of this migration, can automatically old computer software, system configuration (such as account information), and document these important data synchronization to the new computer, and now the android ecosystem as a key to upgrade the effect, is very convenient.

Moving from an old Mac to a new Mac

Web browsing experience

I used my computer most of the time to browse the web, and after the system was set up, I was ready to experience browsing the web on the 27-inch Retina screen.

Use Safari instead of Chrome

I used to download Chrome, but since Google’s cloud services have been blocked, Chrome has become a standalone app: Favorites sync, password sync, automatic updates, and plugin installs are not available. For people who use different Macs at work and at home, the absence of these cloud services can be a cruel experience: With a new computer, these Settings must be reset. Why hang yourself from a tree? Why not try Safari? Chrome’s cloud service, which is not available in China, is still available in Safari. By the way, Safari is also better than Chrome in many situations. For example, when browsing StackOverflow in China, Chrome opens much slower than Safari, or even IE 10. I opened Safari, installed the ad-blocking plugin in the plugin manager, opened the Sina homepage, and the entire loading process was very smooth. Using Magic Mouse2 to scroll down from top to bottom, the whole process is also very smooth without any stuttering. Open multiple connections in a new TAB, also very smooth. Crucially, compared to the small screen of a Web page in MNP, the Web content on IMAC 27’s large browser is basically scaled to equal proportions, and the text is presented in a very fine way without any blurring-out. It’s no exaggeration to say that using Safari in iMac27 gives you the best experience of web browsing.

ImaC27 opens a screenshot on sina.com:

Magic Mouse2 and wireless keyboard

In addition to the screen surprises, the iMac27 also has a built-in mouse :Magic Mouse2 and a wireless Bluetooth keyboard. Magic Mouse2 is as flexible as MBP’s touchpad, supports some gesture operation, and is very easy to use. In addition, the accuracy of the mouse is good, and no elegant phenomenon has been found temporarily. The wireless keyboard feels similar to the MBP, and if you like to tap on the keyboard, the iMAC 27’s built-in keyboard will suit you just as well. The mouse-keyboard combination is good overall, but the experience is not as good as the MBP trackpad/keyboard combination: With the iMac27, lifting your hand from the keyboard and moving it to the mouse is a lot of work, and the BMP trackpad is just below the keyboard, so your right hand can operate the trackpad without much movement. Another problem with the iMac’s large screen is that, You may need to move the mouse twice if you want to move the cursor from one edge of the screen to the other.

Programming experience

What is it like to program in MBP? The screen is too small, of course, and the eyes work too hard. With iMac27, you don’t have that problem, and you go to the other end of the spectrum: the screen is too big to use. Let’s talk about how I use it:

  1. IDE window partition, suitable for reading related code, while writing code in another TAB

  2. Apple’s built-in window split, suitable for debugging in the browser, while writing code in the IDE

The speakers

I had always expected the speakers embedded in the screen to sound weak and of poor quality, but I was struck by how thick the iMac sounded when it turned on. Bass is very heavy, treble is very trenchy also, put in such small space of the study, can bring you the voice that vibrates like, do not need to buy an independent sound box again completely.

Afterword.

In short, whether it’s browsing the web, watching videos, watching music or programming. It’s been an incredible experience for me. One word: value.
