Yue: never forget, there will be echoes.

I. Career change consultants

He is not determined to code farming. “– a widely circulated maxim.

Becoming a programmer sounds like a cool thing to do, and a very lucrative thing to do.

Since I changed my profession, my relatives and friends say that at least 10 or 20 people have expressed to me the will of “want to change profession code farming”, consulting the method of changing profession.

Chun brother, my current job is really not promising, I want to learn from you, switch to code. …

Dachun, if I want to be a programmer like you, how should I learn? …

I have too much free time at work. I want to learn some programming and make money on my spare time. What should I learn? …

I have encountered too many such problems.

At first, I was very warm to the people who asked me for advice. I felt that I was a fellow of my own and that I would talk to people on my way to grow up.

The first friend who asked me for advice on “how to change careers”, I enthusiastically recommended books, videos, learning routes, etc.

But after that, I still saw his happy news about drinking at night in my moments every few days.

At that time, I was so eager that I went to her moments to comment:

“Elder brother! Stop playing and get back to learning Java basics!”

But the friend’s response was intriguing:

“You’re doing your job…”

This word I tasted to taste is not taste, then never take the initiative to mention with this buddy “self-taught programming” of the matter. Tacit understanding, the man did not mention to me, he asked me to consult the conversation, as if it had not happened.

The second is a friend of a friend. I do not know how to know my “zero basis self-study career” success story, added my wechat, ask me what is easier to learn.

This time, I restrained myself from being overly enthusiastic and analyzed how the market was and how difficult it was to get into each direction.

I haven’t heard from him since.

Number three, number four… One person came to me for advice, but I know of only one who really sat down and studied for any length of time.

Second, special programming learners

Say it without embellishment.

My daughter-in-law really, really, really wanted to learn programming.

During one of the busiest periods of my personal work, she asked me, “What programming skills do you have to learn to work with you on your personal work? Share your stress?”

At first I thought she meant it, but I blurted out the answer, “It’s got to be the front end, easy.”

“Husband, I learn front end!”

So I followed my learning path and recommended the W3C School website and some videos.

I didn’t realize she was a real student.

Every night as I worked on my own errands, she stood by and learned the front end of my now-obsolete Y470.

If you don’t understand, you ask me.

After learning HTML and CSS, she was able to build a login page style on her own, and then she had to learn JS.

To make it easier, I didn’t let her learn the boring JS syntax. Instead, I let her learn the jquery API directly from the tutorial to see what JS can do.

But she still couldn’t get past it, and after about half a month of jquery, she had to admit that it was too hard for her.

So the plan to learn to share the pressure with my husband fell apart.

But when I think about it, it’s kind of cute. Stupid cute.

Third, beginner’s mind

After meeting so many people who had “flirted with the idea of a career change,” it dawned on me that it might not be easy to teach yourself a career change.

If you don’t have a little light in your heart, you may be knocked out of the door when confronted with a problem that you can’t solve for hours.

Since then, before anyone asks me “how to teach myself how to change careers,” I politely ask them where they came from.

If there is a real love or desire, then I may continue to introduce.

If the original intention is to escape, or something else, it is probably not into the door.

Originally I was treading on thin ice at the beginning of the choice of the road, not everyone can have the courage to walk down.

It’s because it’s hard. No wonder there are so many programming classes that charge huge tuition fees and create “sunk costs” that many people think are the driving force behind learning.

I see:

Even at the beginning of my career change, I had expectations and love for this industry.

If it were not for love, I would not have endured so many nights of uncertain and determined future.

If it were not for expectation, I would not put all my eggs in one basket and study off-job on the premise that parents on both sides expressed “not optimistic”.

Since there is love and expectation, we should not forget our original aspiration.

4. Job hunting. What job are you seeking?

After rejecting all offers, I began a paid job search.

I’ve done some analysis of what kind of job I’m looking for.

First, I analyzed what the market was doing in 2018.

  • In terms of industry trends, native mobile continues to be in a slump, with various “mini-apps”, hybrid development, and cross-platform technologies emerging one after another, so android mobile development is not a consideration.
  • In terms of career development, the specialization of the division of labor is the general trend, and the development mode of front and back is being replaced by the separation of front and back. Full stack is not desirable.
  • Personally, I have always been a “front over back” developer, so personally I prefer the front end.
  • From the threshold, difficulty, the front end is obviously easier. For my goal of “going high”, it’s easier to study on my own.

So I set a tone for myself:

Find a full-time “front end development” position with a legitimate company.

Regular company, the whole process has the kind of test.

Full-time front-end, even at a lower salary.

Five, one into the soul

Shortly after I started, I had my first interview:

An outsourcing, outsourcing to a state-owned enterprise.

Before the formal interview, I met with the head of outsourcing, who was wearing a suit and shiny hair and bought me a Starbucks.

In Starbucks, this buddy introduced me to his summary of the “interview questions” often asked by party A, let me have a quick check and recite.

Boy, did I have a problem with that.

Liyingwaihe, party A when bao whole ah……

In fact, the so-called interview FAQ is vUE life cycle, which I don’t need to cram.

Finish your coffee and start the interview.

Soon I had two rounds of interviews and was on a roll.

It is worth mentioning that the second interviewer introduced his educational background to me at the end of the interview:

My undergraduate alumnus majored in Materials

Under the superposition of multiple buffs such as liyingwaihe and alumni interview, the interview was successfully won.

After a round of bargaining with Party B, WE talked about the salary of 12K/ month.

Strictly speaking, this is indeed a job that meets my initial expectations. The party A is very formal and the position is also front end.

But coming out of the first interview straight away, made me feel illusory.

So I decided to take a break and continue down.

Failure, failure, failure

After the fascinating interview, I felt like I was stuck in the interview mire.

Since then, I have participated in many, many interviews that were impressive or not.

Wuhan Wan Jianglong, fell in the technical person in charge of that side, the reason is that the technical depth is not enough.

A data service company that was working on the separation of the front and back ends ended up missing the CTO for unknown reasons.

At an “email APP” developer that just won the angel round, the interviewer carefully explained some front-end basics to me, then patiently hung me up.

Xx was convinced that the first and second meetings went well. In the last round of technical meetings, the technical director asked me how to carry out coordination in the development process. This can put me stumped, usually I and duan ge do, but not much collaborative experience. Hang up.

A college student entrepreneurial enterprise located in Huazhong University of Science and Technology also had no news after the whole conversation.

All of those things, they’re dead.

But on the whole, I am very grateful to most of the interviewers during these interviews. They are very Nice people who guide me carefully and help me analyze the gaps in my knowledge.

Anyway, during that time, I made interviews during the day and went back at night to cover any gaps.

In addition to the above normal “face hanging” experience, I also encountered some strange enterprises.

7. The team in the employee dormitory building

After receiving an invitation for an interview, I took the bus to the interview site.

Something strange happened to me. After arriving at the designated place, I walked more and more strangely. It didn’t look like there was an office building, but only the gate of a factory park.

After talking to my contact on the phone, he told me:

“Enter the gate of the park, walk right, and go up to the second floor of a building about 100 meters later.”

When I arrived at my destination, I was a little confused.

On my right was the wall, and on my left was a small two-story, dilapidated house with many broken Windows.

Skeptical, I tried to climb to the second floor.

The stairs are dirty and messy.

I was even more confused when I climbed to the second floor, where the structures felt strangely familiar:

Door after door as far as I could see.

Not office buildings, but “employee dormitories” and other structures.

Stunned, I called my contact again.

“Here? Wait…”

Noting!

Three meters in front of me, a door suddenly opened and a scruffy bearded man walked up to me smelling like smoke. “Interview?”

Following my brother into the room, I was shocked by what I saw:

A dozen computers are cluttered in “dormitory-sized rooms” connected by doors and filled with a cloud of smoke in which seven or eight men and a girl are hard at work.

There was no conference room. Beard and I finished our interview in the computer room.

According to Beard:

The company is founded by a big man in the currency circle. At present, in the start-up stage, the goal is to create a virtual currency trading platform by taking advantage of the explosion of blockchain.

At present, I am still in the entrepreneurial stage. I will change my office environment when I make money.

Currency circle! Block chain!

“Oh, oh, great!”

“Very impressive.”

After my boasting, the beard looked very flattered.

The interview ended in peace.

I left the room immediately after, and as soon as I got downstairs I deleted the company from my direct Hire contact list.

Am I the kind of person interested in living on the fringes of the law?

Are you interested in part-time development?

Recruit outsourcing, cheat training I know, recruit part-time I really first see.

In the sweltering heat of mid-June, I received an interview offer from a moderately reputable company. After saying hello to Teacher Ke, I took a bus for nearly an hour to go to my destination under the hot noon sun.

When I arrived at the office, the interview set me up for PTSD, and I was suddenly reminded of the bad experience.

The interview is not in the office, but in an open plan workstation.

Around them, on the first floor, in huge open-plan offices, more than a hundred telemarketers were busy making phone calls, with occasional cheers of “Good, good, very good” rising from the crowd.

Remember the office of the “Extreme Entrepreneurs” team in Spring Brothers story 06?

The kernel is identical.

Research and development is surrounded by uproar.

I sat there like a fish out of water with the interviewer.

The interview performance was mediocre, because the interviewer picked an easy algorithm for me to do, caught off guard to test the algorithm, although I got the results, but the time complexity is a long story.

After the interview, I took a bus back to W University.

On the bus, I received a call from HR of this company.

The call was very surreal:

“Hello, your interview has been passed, but the position you interviewed for has been cancelled. Would you consider working part-time on our program?”

Duang!

That’s when my temper kicked in.

I take half a day off work (though not deducted from my pay) to make the two-hour drive to an interview, where affection awaits me. Playing me like a monkey? Boy!

“Rage + shielding”, I won’t go into details.

I put this company on the blacklist for good anyway.

By the way, the name of the company is:

Suntech Institute.

I mean to be offensive.

Eight, the dust settled

In the long interview, the long failure, my confidence gradually eroded, began to fall into self-doubt:

“With all the superficial development experience and knowledge I’ve accumulated over the years, is it impossible to get into a legitimate company?”

Here’s another piece of bad news:

Because of my procrastination, I lost the outsourcing job that I passed in the first interview.

At this point, my interview journey felt like a quagmire.

So I sent out a bunch of resumes, this time to more famous companies. Such as “megvii”, “Hikvision” and other companies I did not dare to think about before.

What makes me feel bold is that I voted for 360. (It’s 360 but not exactly 360, more on that later)

I – the old dog at the bottom of the outsourcing ladder.

360 — the star of the Internet era.

The distance between 360 and me is just like the distance between village head Lao Wang and Jay Chou.

But! (Plot twists always need a “but.”)

A day later, I received a phone interview invitation from 360.

The phone interview did not go well for me. I was mainly asked about my project experience, some front-end basic knowledge, some simple algorithms, browser rendering process and engineering related content.

And the interviewer asked me,

“When is a good time to meet and talk offline?”

Once I listen to? Ho! Depends on? This is “360”!!!!!

The day is better than the day, so about two o ‘clock in the afternoon.

When I arrived at the interview site, I was greeted by a man with loose hair, dark circles under his eyes and casual dress. The elder brother spoke very casually:

“Actually, I’ve learned everything I need to know on the phone. Let’s talk briefly.”

The first interview was followed by the second.

The second interview also went well, and exchanged wechat messages with the second interviewer.

Then there’s a waiting period.

During this period, my boss visited me once to see if MY interview was not good and asked me whether I would consider staying in W University. My previous promise was still valid.

Me: “Boss, I still have a ‘360’ interview has not been the result, I want to try again, a few days to give you a reply.”

A day later, three sides of “360” arrived.

I was on a bus in Beijing for a phone interview. I answered the phone and explained the situation. I immediately jumped off the bus at a completely unfamiliar bus stop and found a quiet corner on the side of the street to start the interview.

The next day, HR called.

HR: “You have passed the interview, would you like to come to our company?”

Me: “You’re 360! Surely I would!”

HR: “Well… We are not 360, our full name is 360 Enterprise Security, 360’s sister company.”

Later, the company had another name, called “Cianxin”.

Just like a miracle, I got the offer of 360 Enterprise Security before the final deadline that I customized for myself arrived.

And it’s not outsourcing.

Do you believe in light?

I believe it.

On a dreary afternoon in the summer of 2018, it was as if light was pouring through a gaping hole in the overcast sky.

Nine, echo

“360” and “360 Enterprise Security “are two companies.

But at the time, they might not have made that much difference to me.

They are all great, legitimate companies full of great people.

That might be enough.

It’s been about three years since I first became a “career programmer.”

Three years ago, what I filtered was “how to get into the business”.

As for “joining a large and famous company”, that is the scenario I can only imagine with my eyes closed.

Never forget, there will be echoes.

Three years later, after a lot of stumbling and confusion, I finally managed to get such a ticket out of the mire.

Somewhere, there seems to be a god.

Ten, leave and the road ahead

In the big W.

Duan Ge still drives a BMW 3 series to and from work every day, and lives in a 130-square-meter house without loans within the second ring Road.

Every season of hearthstone legend duan Elder brother will legend, pesticides are king. Every day after work, he and his wife play games in double rows.

Three years later, Duan Ge was still repeating this fairy time.

The boss, along with the new staff he recruited, is still busy with the new system and new demand of W University’s educational informatization.

I have been working in W University until the day before I joined the new company, completed the work handover and recommended the new labor dispatch personnel.

As I left W University’s information office building, I looked back.

The sky was blue and clear.

I was walking on the campus path on the afternoon of July 21, 2018, getting ready to embrace a brand new life.

(The story of Spring Brother will be the main line, the end.)

Afterword.

The end of the main line, maybe the occasional extra.

That’s the end of this series.

The subsequent story, for various reasons, is not convenient to continue to tell.

However, I still continue to work hard, although the life direction of the center of gravity and some deviation, but never forget their original intention.

Later, there may be some “special stories” from time to time, telling bits and pieces of interesting experiences, you can pay attention to me, or pay attention to the column at the end of the article.

Thank you and goodbye

This chapter says
