1. Silicon Valley is losing its hiring edge

Silicon Valley is undoubtedly the dream job destination for thousands of CS graduates. From 2012 to 2017, software-related hires in Silicon Valley declined 7.7 percent, according to Glassdoor.

There is no doubt that Silicon Valley is the dream job for all CS major students. Silicon Valley topped the list with an average annual salary of $142K for tech workers in 2017.

However, considering the exceptionally high housing prices and prices in Silicon Valley, if the cost of living is adjusted, the annual salary in Silicon Valley suddenly drops to the bottom, much lower than Seattle, LA, Denver and other areas.

2. The upstart Software cities

In fact, the U.S. unemployment rate fell in 2018, according to the Labor Department. So what happened to all those jobs that Silicon Valley lost?

1. Seattle

According to Glassdoor, the number of software jobs in Seattle increased 6.7% in 2017 compared to 2012.

In addition to Microsoft and Amazon, more and more well-known IT companies have started to migrate to Seattle, such as Facebook, Google and Airbnb, which have set up branches in Seattle and are constantly expanding their recruitment.

Considering that the cost of living in Seattle is much lower than that in Silicon Valley, more and more CS professionals are moving to Seattle instead of Silicon Valley.

2. Washington, dc,

Software jobs in Washington grew 1.3 percent in 2017 compared to 2012, according to Glassdoor.

As the capital city of the United States, Washington D.C. is also constantly attracting IT talent, with traditional IT giants such as IBM, HP and Oracle currently expanding their recruitment in Washington.

3. Detroit

According to Glassdoor, the number of software jobs in Detroit increased 0.8% in 2017 compared to 2012.

Detroit, the automotive capital of the United States, is home to many auto-related software engineer positions, such as Ford.

3. Employment situation of Chinese overseas students

Another situation: how about the employment situation of Chinese students studying abroad?

The Us Department of Labor and other authorities do not have specific data on the employment of Chinese students. However, according to the white Paper on Chinese Students’ Employment in the US released in 2017, about 75 percent of Chinese students studying abroad find it difficult to find a job in the US.

According to the report, the US government stipulates that international students can only work in a job related to their major in the US. Otherwise, they will be regarded as working illegally, regardless of whether they are paid or not, and will be deported immediately. From the very beginning, international students have fewer options for job hunting than locals. Secondly, the H1B visa system of the US makes it a luxury for most international students who want to work in the US.

There are two kinds of employment: 1. 2. Get a good job.

Graduates from elite American schools are forced to return to China not because they can’t find a job, but because they can’t find a good job they want, or because they miss out on a valuable opportunity to work in a good job.

The U.S. job market is definitely big enough for an average job seeker, but good jobs are hard to find. To find a job that truly satisfies you, you may need to know more than just furiously brushing your exams and undaunted sending out your resume.

The whole employment situation is not very friendly to us. So: thoroughly understand the current employment situation and employment situation, not two eyes a black, blind cast resume is the most priority!
