Set up the installation and Ubuntu 18.04 + Windows 10 dual system installation

For scientific research, the laboratory decided to equip a workstation with a certain amount of computing power. Considering the budget and so on, the final decision to configure the assembly. The following are some records of the author during the whole setup process.

Install Windows 10

  • Reinstallation can be completed according to Microsoft official website instructions. This article according to the school to provide the instruction of Microsoft batch licensing services for the reinstallation of Win10. Before reinstallation, back up important data of the system disk.
  • Prepare a USB boot drive with Rufus.

  • The version we installed is Windows 10 Education EDITION X64 Chinese Simplified.
  • Type of installation performed: Custom: Windows (advanced) only.
  • Where to install: Select SSD.
  • Disk Partition: right-click this computer > Storage > Disk Management.
  • After the installation is complete, the windows. old folder in the system disk is an earlier Version of Windows and will be automatically cleared 10 days later. You can also manually delete Windows.old: right-click system disk > Properties > General > Disk Cleanup > Clean Up System Files > Previous Windows Installations > OK.

Install Ubuntu After Windows

requirements

  • A usb flash drive of at least 4GB
  • Windows XP or above is pre-installed
  • Rufus, make a usb boot drive
  • Ubuntu Image file

process

  • In Windows, right-click the computer and choose Manage > Disk Management, select the appropriate disk partition, right-click, compress the volume, and allocate storage area for Ubuntu.
  • Download the Ubuntu image from the official website. The version used in this article is Ubuntu 18.04.3LTS.
  • To Create an Ubuntu USB boot drive, refer to Create a USB Stick on Windows. This article uses Rufus 3.6.
  • Something that needs to be confirmed. Our computer is UEFI/GPT.
  • Restart your computer. F12 Enter boot Menu and select UEFI: USB boot.
  • Install Ubuntu.
  • At Installation Type, select the last Something else and manually partition.
  • To customize partitions, right-click Freespace > Add:
    • nvme (SSD): freespace 105GB
      • 100GB partition for /, ext4
      • 1GB for /boot, ext4
    • sda (Hard Drive): freespace 500GB
      • 32 and 64 gb for Swap partition
      • For 250-320 gb/home, corruption
    • boot loader: /dev/nvme0n1 WDC 250g
  • Restart now.
