Currently, huawei cloud provides three types of database services: relational database services, non-relational database services, and database tool services. As shown below:

Relational database and non-relational database can be divided into two categories: open source and self-developed. The self-developed database is GaussDB series, while the open source database can be divided into RDS and DDS community edition.

Relational database RDS: Cloud optimization for open source version

Relational Database Service (RDS) is an online Relational Database Service based on cloud computing platform that is out-of-the-box, stable, reliable, flexible, scalable, and easy to manage.

Huawei Cloud provides RDS services including RDS for MySQL and RDS for PostgreSQL, which are optimized on the cloud based on the MySQL and PostgreSQL open source databases, respectively.

The minimum management unit of huawei CLOUD RDS is an instance. An instance represents an independent relational database. Instances can be classified as primary instance, standby instance, and read-only copy.

If we want to establish a database-based enterprise software application, the traditional way is to build our own database. Of course, we can also choose to build a database on the cloud server ECS (i-layer service in the cloud service) and buy the cloud database RDS (S-layer service in the cloud service).

The traditional self-built database is not easy to use and requires a lot of manpower to maintain. Moreover, once data loss occurs, the loss is incalculable.

Compared to the self-built database, database of cloud in the engine room fire wind network of water and electricity and other infrastructure, server deployment and maintenance, database, software installation, database software version upgrades and patches, etc, to save a lot of manpower, hardware, maintenance costs, allow database administrators to have more time to design database model, SQL optimization, performance tuning master core work.

Non-relational database DDS Community Edition

Document Database Service (DDS) is fully compatible with MongoDB protocol, providing secure, highly available, highly reliable, elastic scaling and easy to use Database services, and one-click deployment, elastic capacity expansion, disaster recovery, backup, recovery, monitoring and alarm functions. Supports cluster, replica set, and single-node deployment architectures.

Self-developed cloud native database GaussDB

Huawei Cloud recently launched GaussDB full-scenario database cloud service to meet customers’ database requirements in different application scenarios.

Huawei GaussDB series is an enterprise-level distributed database based on its database kernel development and optimization capability of more than ten years in external telecom, government and enterprise markets, Huawei’s internal IT and cloud base, and its understanding of customers’ demands for high reliability and high performance.

In terms of relational databases, Huawei Cloud officially launched the cloud native GaussDB(for MySQL) database in July this year, embracing and compatible with the widely recognized open source ecological MySQL. In addition, GaussDB(openGauss), a distributed database based on Huawei Open Ecology’s openGauss kernel, will be commercially released within this year.

In the field of non-relational database services, Huawei Cloud focuses on creating cloud native GaussDB NoSQL multi-mode databases. Including GaussDB(for Mongo), GaussDB(for Redis), GaussDB(for Influx), and GaussDB(for Cassandra). Currently, GaussDB(for Mongo) and GaussDB(for Cassandra) are commercially available.

Huawei cloud developed GaussDB series has the following core technical advantages: storage separation architecture, DFV storage, and NDP operator push-down.

Take GaussDB(for MySQL) as an example. It is based on huawei’s latest DFV distributed storage and adopts the computing storage separation architecture. It supports fast expansion of read-only nodes with 1 write and 15 read, supports massive storage of up to 128TB, and can perform QPS throughput of over one million levels. Number one in the industry.

For example, the GaussDB NoSQL series has strong multi-module data management capability and leads the industry in concurrent read/write capability, capacity expansion time, fault reconstruction time, backup efficiency, and recovery efficiency, which is a qualitative leap compared with pure open source software.

Huawei cloud GaussDB provides a wide range of database products and can be customized according to the service characteristics of different customers.

For example, GaussDB(for MySQL), GaussDB(for Mongo) and other services will focus on the most basic cloud native development requirements for cloud databases, and provide extremely cost-effective solutions.

Database ecosystem tools

In addition to databases, Huawei Cloud also provides a series of database tools and services, including open source database services and self-developed database services, to provide customers with cloud data migration, replication, and data management services, reducing customers’ migration costs in terms of ease of use.

At present, Huawei has mature and commercial database tools and services, such as DRS, DAS, and DDM. Meanwhile, Huawei cloud will also release database application migration tools in the second half of the year.

Its core capabilities include database query and development, operation and maintenance monitoring, performance diagnosis, SQL tuning, data security control and intelligent parameter prediction, etc. Distributed database middleware (DDM) and RDS combine to extend the current mature level of distributed database capabilities and bring the access experience of a single database instance to ordinary users. Guaranteed SQL computation and transaction capabilities, the storage and computing layers extend almost indefinitely.
