How was Friday, when the temperature dropped a lot? GitHub is making an effort to promote an “Open Source Friday” of open-source contributions on Fridays.

The original: Over the last three years, we’ve encouraged GitHub employees to take time at least every fourth Friday to work on open source and share what we’re working on with each other. Open Source Friday has grown from this into a program anyone can take part in. For the past three years, we’ve encouraged GitHub employees to spend at least every Thursday on open source, sharing our collaborations. Open Source Friday has grown into a program that anyone can join.

There are not many people who have been drinking at Ebisu since noon and enjoying value Friday, but as witnesses who enjoy Open Source Friday, we can say that the future of Japan is not value Friday but Open Source Friday. Today we introduce it.

What is Boostnote?

This is a Markdown/Snippet application for open source programmers. He has earned more than 5,400 stars on GitHub and spread to about 200 countries around the world. He is supported by many people every day and promotes development through dialogue.

A practical example of Boostnote

Take a pull request as an example. Users in China sent us the wrong correction of “grunt” as “grand”, and users in America sent us the correction of English grammar. These seem to be small requests, but even we did not notice these mistakes. So it really helped us.

On the contrary, sometimes a big thing happens. For example, with the collaboration between Boostnote and GitHubGist, the day star tagging features like Boostnote Mobile arrived, I figured I’d want to start drinking at noon.

Also, since about 80% to 90% of Boostnote users are overseas, and all the maintenance staff are Japanese, some foreign users will abuse us for translating some documents, which is very helpful. I think translating overseas OSS files into Japanese will also make people happy, I highly recommend it.

hacktoberfest

I participated in the annual # Hacktoberfest and promoted contributing on Boostnote, and was actually surprised that more people contributed than I thought. The reality, however, is that there are no Japanese contributors other than the maintainers. Here, we are preparing simple or easy things, welcome to join us!

If Hacktoberfest participates, you may get a T-shirt.

Open source strategy

In addition, GitHub also publishes the following information and technologies. · Open Source Survey – Open Source Survey. I intend to summarize the translation and summary in a future blog post. · Businesses — Published comments and simple recommendations on Open Source business contributions, as well as simple advice on implementing Open Source Friday. There’s also a feature that lets you set reminders on your calendar, which you can try. · Maintainers – In addition to making it easier for open source Maintainers to find projects, it introduces useful content such as how to enhance the community and improve collaborative development workflows with others. · Open Source Guides — Provide practical Guides to the average user on why to contribute, What to Contribute, How to Contribute, and what happens when you contribute. However, since the English question is very long, I will translate and summarize it briefly in my blog later.

The last

That’s a brief introduction to Open Source Friday and Boostnote. There are a lot of wonderful open source projects out there, and people reading this might think we’re working on some open source software. If you are not only using it, but also on the contributing side, the increasing number of Japanese contributing to the ecosystem, if you can play a role in building a community that allows you to speak overseas, that is an open source vendor. Also, I have a lot of opportunities to meet people who are not programmers, and when I talk about open source mechanics, they are very interesting to listen to. I am convinced that open source is the father of the next generation of work. We’re going to push our efforts as an open source vendor so that we don’t just extend IT to IT, but extend IT more broadly.
