The Apache Software Foundation has announced that Apache PredictionIO is emerging from the Apache incubator as a top-level project. The news marks an important milestone in the progress of the project.

Apache PredictionIO is an open source machine learning service. It is designed to help developers and data scientists create predictive engines and services for machine learning tasks.

“PredictionIO began by popularizing machine learning through highly customized templates using a suite of proven techniques provided by Apache and open source projects,” said Donald Szeto, vice president of Apache PredictionIO. As more and more users and the developer community provided valuable feedback and contributions, the project grew during the incubation phase. We are very excited about this and look forward to continuing with the goals of the project with the help of the community.”

PredictionIO has focused on simplifying the development of machine learning technologies since launching its own company. The company was acquired by Salesforce in 2016, and the company’s open source code was donated to the Apache Software Foundation last summer.

The project has the ability to build and deploy as a predictive engine for Web services, respond to dynamic queries in real time, systematically evaluate and tune multiple engine variants, unify data from multiple platforms, and accelerate machine learning modeling.

“Apache PredictionIO gives developers the ability to easily create end-to-end intelligent applications and deploy them across a whole stack of scale-up applications without having to piece together the underlying technology,” said Simon Chan, Senior Director of Einstein Product Management at Salesforce. Einstein is Salesforce’s ARTIFICIAL intelligence technology platform dedicated to popularizing machine learning.

PredictionIO is already used in ActionML, BizReach, LiftIQ, and Pluralsight, according to the Apache Software Foundation.
