Great performance vs. annoying bangs

The crackling MacBookPro 2021 has been around for a while, but a lot of people are obsessed with bangs, and TopNotch is the app for removing bangs. Today, I’m going to introduce a way to remove bangs without using third-party software.

Go bangs principle is very simple, look for the wallpaper that takes black edge on top namely actually, let bangs and top column be in harmony with each other.

However, it may be difficult to find ready-made pictures on the Internet, or the pictures on the Internet are not the ones we like. The question then becomes how do we add a black top bar to our favorite images to hide the bangs?

Create bang-less wallpaper with quick instructions

Using Photoshop or any other professional image manipulation tool to add black edges to our favorite images can be a bit of an overkill, cumbersome and complicated.

In fact, this simple picture processing, can be completed with shortcut instructions. Quick Command is an official Apple productivity tool that can automate many simple tasks.

Here I directly paste the shortcut command I made, you just need to open the link, add to your shortcut command library:

Create/modify shortcut instructions

If you are interested in learning how to use shortcut instructions, or need to modify existing shortcut instructions, read on. I will remove the bangs with this command, a brief introduction to the use of fast command this artifact.

  1. Open the shortcut command software, the home page is “shortcut command center “, you can add some common instructions provided by the official

  2. At the bottom of the left side is “My Shortcut Commands “, where user – defined commands are placed

  3. Create or open an existing shortcut command

    1. Create a new command, click New in the menu bar, or click the plus button

    2. Find an existing shortcut command, right-click it, and select Open

  4. After opening the shortcut command, you can see the details of the command. The page is split into two sections, with the sequence of actions for the current instruction on the left and the library of optional actions on the right. Edit shortcut instructions, is from the right operation library to select the required operation, drag to the left, and in a certain order.

  5. Select the variable

Many operations need to take advantage of the results of previous operations. By default, when we add a new operation, the result of the previous operation is automatically taken as input data for further processing. But if you want to use the results of other previous operations, re-select the input data. In the shortcut instruction, the result of most operations will automatically become a variable. If you modify the variable used in the operation, you can choose the data used in the operation.

    1. Click on the highlighted variables section of the action and select “Clear” in the expanded box to remove the currently selected variable
    2. The variable portion of the operation becomes a blank box, and the “image” in the background indicates that the operation requires an image data here
    3. Click on the blank box and select “Magic Variables” in the dropdown.
    4. The spacing between the previous operations becomes larger, and there are more results after each operation, that is, variables generated after each operation. Here select the “file” variable after the first “Select file” operation

  6. Adjust the details of the operation

Some of the operations have some fine-tuning options, such as the “resize” and “crop” operations used in this bang-removing command. Since I’m using the 16-inch macbookPro as an example, I’ve specified a resolution of 3456 by 2158. This is the 16-inch screen resolution (3456*2234) minus the top bar height (76 pixels), which is the size of the valid image in the wallpaper. For 14-inch MBP, this can be adjusted to the actual resolution

  7. Other instructions

Bangs wallpaper instructions, there is a string of meaning unknown code, do not understand the programming of the people, may worry about what malicious code, here a simple explanation.

This black edge wallpaper with bangs removed is actually made by superplacing an effective 3456*2158 image on top of a pure black background image of 3456*2234. The effective image is the one selected in the first operation of the command, while the black background image is made by scaling the black image of 1 pixel. In order to facilitate sharing, the 1-pixel black image is embedded in the command, which uses Base64 encoding to convert the image into character form and store it in the shortcut command.
