Alfred is a Mac productivity tool that lets you do a quick web search, find local files, run various workflow plugins, and more without using the mouse. BetterZip is an excellent Mac compression and decompression software.

We can incorporate BetterZip into Alfred’s workflow, doubling our productivity without using the mouse!

Alfred imports the BetterZip workflow configuration

When we successfully installed Alfred, we found it searchable, as shown in Figure 1 below.

In general, if you want to use BetterZip to compress or decompress files, you need to set Alfred’s Features to search for documents, folders, images, etc., and set its search scope to what you want, as shown in Figure 2.

Next, click on the Menu for BetterZip, and you’ll see an additional “Install Alfred Workfs” option, as shown in Figure 3. Click on it.

After clicking, the interface as shown in Figure 4 will appear. Click “Import” in the lower right corner to import workflow configuration directly.

The Alfred workflow interface after the import is successful is shown in Figure 5, which consists of two workflows: Compress with BetterZip and Extract with BetterZip.

Use BetterZip in Alfred

It’s also easy to use. In the search screen in Figure 1, we search for files to compress or decompress, and then use the shortcut “Command + right arrow” (optional) to access the screen shown below, where we find the two BetterZip workflow options imported.

Here we click “Compress with BetterZip,” and Alfred will automatically help us open the screen shown in Figure 7, which shows us all of the preset options for our BetterZip software, select the preset action we want, Alfred then calls BetterZip to do the processing for us.

With just a few keystrokes and a few keyboard shortcuts, you can compress and unzip files without using the mouse. It’s amazing, isn’t it?
