Large exposure of NEO’s key technical community members
October 17 marks the second anniversary of NEO’s mainnet launch. As a community project, it is inseparable from the contributions of all members. I’m often asked, “Why is your community doing so well? Why is your overseas community so strong?” In this article we will bring you back to basics. What have NEO’s core technology communities contributed over the past two years? What achievements have been made? What are some interesting little stories about how they first learned about NEO and why they chose it?
City of Zion (CoZ)
CoZ is the first tech community on NEO, consisting of nearly 50 developers. Developed NEO- based cross-platform light wallet NEOWallet (currently available for Windows, OSX, Linux, etc.), NEO blockchain browser NEOScan, compiler neo-Phthon, node monitor Neomon… And organize multilingual information translation in the community to serve the global community members and enthusiasts. Founder and developer Fabio has a bachelor’s degree in computing science and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, and has worked on several major projects before founding CoZ. Prior to that, Fabio co-founded and served as cTO of Lemonaid Learning Analytics in Brazil.

I was hoping Fabio would write about his relationship with NEO, but he’s been ramping up work on NEON Wallet, so here’s a quick list of CoZ’s key accomplishments over the past two years:
• Formed a global community of open source developers unique to NEO Ecology
• Translate and improve technical documentation to improve global adoption
• Develop NEON Wallet
• Develop Neoscan and Neomon
• VM, Core, and compiler implementation in Python, Golang, and other languages
• Develop neo-Sharp and hyperVM
• Development apis and developer libraries (e.g. Neon – JS)
• Deploy multiple full nodes including six consensus nodes (three on the test network and three on the main network)
• The brand successfully upgraded from Little Ant to NEO on multiple social platforms
• Planning support, outreach and hackathons for NEO conferences and meet-and-greet events
• Develop and audit NEO improvement Plans (NEP)
• Conduct multiple security audits of the NEO platform
• Develop easy-to-use tools such as neo-local and neo-tools

Third, NewEconoLab (NEL)
As we all know, NEO also has the largest technical community in China, NEL — NewEconoLab, co-founded by Liu Yongxin and Li Jianying. NEL takes technology preaching and infrastructure construction as its mission, promotes blockchain platform through offline lectures, online live broadcasts, community q&A, text introduction and other forms, and helps developers transform into blockchain developers. By taking on the non-profit infrastructure necessary for the blockchain ecosystem, such as an online compiler for smart contracts, a blockchain browser, etc., developers with experience in blockchain and smart contracts can opt in to these projects.

In besides nonprofit infrastructure, NEL, this year also develop some commercial projects, aims to let the application block chain closer to people, at present the domain name service on the realization of the NEO NNS, obtained distributed capital and NGC strategic investment, in early February issued a white paper, has been launched in October, first public beta test network to attract participation up to ten thousand people. On October 9, NNS mainnet version was officially launched. Within 3 hours of its launch, the number of domain name bids opened exceeded 1000, and within 6 hours of its launch, the number exceeded 2000. In addition, NNS has entered into a partnership with O3 Wallet. O3 integrates with the NNS domain name service to allow the registration and use of the NEO domain name service. NEL has offered to provide free technical consulting services for all NEO eco-projects.
Since November 2017, NEL has been developing some infrastructure projects in NEO ecosystem, such as browser, smart contract development and debugging tool, ts, C# interface and light wallet interface service. And participated in offline communication activities for many times. Meanwhile, the design of NEODUN hardware wallet is preliminarily completed.
In January this year, NEL and CoZ reached an initial agreement to increase communication and mutual support on the project. NEL translated the NEO JS interface files provided by CoZ into Chinese.
Expanding on the gaming side, NEL incubated the first NEo-based game “Crazy Gladiator”. It also held the first NEO game Development Competition, which ended in more than three months. More than 200 developers from various countries and regions around the world signed up to participate in the competition. The number of effective entries was 46, covering tower defense, cards, sandbox, puzzle, cultivation, hang up, operation and other types. With a total prize money of 3.5 million RMB, it is the largest large-scale game competition NEO has ever held worldwide.
In terms of infrastructure, NEL incubated the BlaCat platform. BlaCat is a chain game platform based on NEO technology. It provides game development kit (SDK) for game dApps, enabling users to play chain games like traditional games without complicated wallet, exchange and other operations. Meanwhile, traditional game developers can seamlessly connect to blockchain. BlaCat hatched Zorochain, which is a chain between the application chain and the public chain. Zorochain adopts a special consensus algorithm on the application chain, which simplifies the consensus steps and enables the consensus to be completed quickly. Meanwhile, it adopts the man-to-many topology of the application chain and nodes, and any node can join the network at any time. Provides services for any application chain. ZoroChain is a truly decentralized application chain that provides an interactive interface with NEO’s public chain.
In terms of community building, NEL has set up an incentive program for developers to encourage their own design and development of NEO-related ecological projects. In addition, it established a strategic partnership with Trinity Wallet and set up NEL Blockchain Developer Forum.
After nearly a year of development, NEL community has formed a pattern dominated by non-profit infrastructure projects, commercial infrastructure projects and game projects.
A, NEOResearch
NeoResearch is a NEO tech community from Brazil whose core members are Vitor and Igor (called Coelho brothers). Vitor and Igor first approached the NEO team around July 2017. The brothers were working on a system called SciChain, which was first proposed in 2016. The idea was to create a system that would run on the ethereum platform (to process scientific literature submitted on the blockchain), but at this point the Coelho brothers were introduced to NEO’s core C# compiler.

Their first challenge was to compile smart contracts through Linux. Thanks to the concerted efforts of several researchers, they were able to fully compile smart contracts in a standalone Linux environment around December. This was followed by the NEO Compiler, the NEO online compiler.
From the beginning, the purpose of NeoResearch was simple, mainly to create a system for your own use to advance your development process. But after a few weeks, I had a different idea, even an idea to design an adaptive, self-calibrating test net.
Under the guidance of Dashu, James, and Peter, this simple compiler has evolved into an ecosystem for testing and analyzing smart contracts, with more than 400,000 page views (based on metrics from a few months ago).
Later, the NeoCompiler ecosystem became more and more decentralized, consisting of a compiler RPC server, a shared private network and tools for constructing transactions, and a basic converter containing instructional guidance functions.
As an important member of the technical community, NeoResearch often participates in activities and shares. He was once invited to Australia for a share, discussing and focusing on the foundation of NEO scientific research community.
The NeoResearch community acts as a bridge between the different parts of the ecology. In addition, because base is in Brazil, they are also tasked with exploring the frontiers of science in South America. The NeoResearch team, with the help of Tamar Salant (NEO Community Ecology Development Manager), began publishing research insights in South America.
To facilitate communication with the NEO community, NeoResearch has also supported the implementation of community engagement programs in South America and Brazil, including additional events/programming practices and proposals for extensive partnerships with institutions and local companies.
In response to the rapidly growing demand, NeoResearch also facilitated the creation of a new community, AmazoNeo.
AmazoNeo is a community created by Igor, Vitor and Alexandre to establish and work on partnerships with NEO South America.
At present, the focus of NeoResearch mainly includes the following points:
• Improve the NeoCompiler ecology
• optimize NeoVM
• Learn optimization strategies to help the NEO team achieve the 100,000 TPS target and improve the NEO blockchain
They recently released a new tool, SMACCO, which is an important advance in smart account creation tools that include instructional guidance, giving NEO an edge over its competitors in blockchain tools.
Smart accounts and transactions are at the heart of blockchain, as well as industrial needs for a variety of applications and cross-chain protocols, with some high-profile partnerships demonstrating the need for these technologies.
According to Lgor, the project so far has not happened overnight, but has taken time and effort from various teams and anonymous contributors. “But the light at the end of the tunnel is definitely the focus. “In that sense, the focus on NEO is like the light that developers and the industry see a bright future in this project.”
4. The great god in the community
NEO’s tech community is a crouching tiger, hidden dragon, and Insomnia, the World champion of Warcraft 3, was our judge at Hackathon in Georgia. The man who once drove tens of millions of players into a frenzy and has millions of fans in China is no less charming than CAI Xukun walking into the girls’ dormitory now. When the suit fades, the hero’s glory and dream continues in the world of blockchain. He transforms into Zdravko Georigiev, the developer of NEO blockchain, and contributes his strength to the community. He is a frequent lecturer at NEO Workshop in Eastern Europe, welcoming more developers to NEO and working alongside Insomnia in the blockchain world.
Insomnia
It has been two years since the launch of NEO’s main network on October 17. NEO has achieved stable operation of the main network, continuous expansion of the community ecology, and improvement of overall security and performance. At present, the block height is about 2.87 million, and the number of dApps accessed is more than 100. Since its inception, the NEO team has witnessed the highs and lows of the blockchain industry, but our community members have always been the backbone of our efforts, investing all their time and energy in steadily moving forward, confident that the smart economy will eventually change.
