As the most widely used software development management software, JIRA, Confluence and other products are almost used by all technology companies. Our daily task management, document writing and other work are almost carried out and managed with the help of these software. Of course, I am no exception. I have been a loyal user of Atlassian since I was a student. No matter in ICBC, Yonghui or independent entrepreneurship, the application of this software has always been my favorite and preferred in software development and management, and I have shared relevant application experience in my blog (didispace.com).

A few days ago, Atlassian announced that it will stop selling new licenses for its Localization deployment service and stop developing new features for its localization deployment products, starting February 2, 2021.

You can also see a hint in the official self-managed section:

The products affected by this suspension are not only Jira, Confluence, but also Crowd (unified certification tool, similar to LDAP), Bamboo (Continuous delivery tool, similar to Jenkins), Bitbucket (code management warehouse, similar to GitLab).

In addition to halting sales, Atlassian is raising prices on premium versions of its main product starting Feb. 2.

Reasons for discontinuing sales

With more than 90% of the company’s customers already using the Cloud version, and companies that used the local version moving to the Cloud version, Atlassian is changing its focus to Cloud First, according to officials.

Atlassian will continue to invest in cloud versions across its entire product line, while phasing out support for localized versions.

User impact

As far as I know, for Chinese enterprise customers, the vast majority are still used in a localized deployment mode. According to relevant agents, the Server version of the Chinese customers account for almost 90% of the users. Therefore, the decision to stop selling, is bound to affect a lot of Chinese enterprises.

Localised versions are no longer available for teams under 500

For entrepreneurial teams, small and medium-sized enterprises cost increase! If you don’t consider the cloud version, you have to consider the 500 person version of the private service. What started out as $10 a year for a 10-person startup team will skyrocket to $20,400! Are you trying to dissuade Chinese players?

Security concerns for enterprise data

Well, we can’t afford $20,400, so let’s compromise and go with the cloud version. Another important question arises: wasn’t JIRA’s choice to go private in the first place an advantage? Now after the cloud, how to ensure the security of our enterprise data?

Replacement scheme for plug-in failure

When the cloud version is adopted, it means that a large number of our plug-ins that were used in the Server version of China will not be available. Lost the ability of timing plug-in management software how to better adapt to the enterprise’s personalized management needs, whether we have to choose it?

conclusion

This announcement is very sudden, but fortunately there are still a few months to adjust, for Chinese enterprises, will you choose the Cloud version? Or choose other domestic management software? Tell us what you think in the comments section!

JIRA, Confluence and other products will be discontinued in February next year, which will affect nearly 90% of customers in China! Please indicate the source
