Last year, I successfully became a glorious mentor through the election, and I also have some experience. After the announcement this year, some friends asked me about the mentor election, so I want to write a blog to record my skills in the election and various interviews, hoping to help you.

There is a mentoring system in our college. Freshmen will be received by senior students of the school or college, and they will help new students understand the rules and regulations of the school through a year of joint learning (human knowledge 😂).

When I was writing my blog today, I thought that I could sort out my application materials at that time. When I opened my mailbox, I found that a year had passed. What a coincidence!

At the beginning of July 2020, I saw the notice of mentee selection issued by the college and wanted to have a try.

First, I would like to introduce my basic situation. At that time, classes had just finished in the first semester of the freshman year. Because of the epidemic, the final exam was postponed. Besides, I just finished my freshman year, which means I have only been in this school for one year (maybe only a few months if the epidemic situation is included), so I don’t know enough about it. How can I compete with other sophomores and juniors?

I was talking to my mentor and he encouraged me to go! Let’s go!

Fill in an application form

Let’s start with the basics:

In a school with a total of 700 students, or in a major with a total of 600 students, ranking 271 is definitely not an excellent level, and it may even be a drag in such a strong situation.

Facts proved that after the registration list came out at that time, I saw the same grade of students, the basic ranking is higher than me.

Had some minor experience filling out the registration form.

• Send using PDF

Last year, I filled in the application form in Word and sent it directly to the teacher’s email. Now I’m still afraid. Some counselors in the college do not have Office on their Office computers, and they are more skilled in using WPS. So my application form to the teacher’s computer is not disorderly typesetting and garbled code is also lucky.

It is recommended that you send your resume or application form in PDF format first. If your organization specifically asks for a Word version, it’s a good idea to send a zip package that includes both Word and PDF versions. Of course, if you send a compressed package, you need to briefly describe the content of the compressed package in the body of the email. Do you need to extract the compressed package into a folder or decompress it directly to obtain a folder?

• Pick on writing

It is best to limit the number of pages in the application form and resume to one page. Last year, I had more pages in the application form. If the counselor had printed out my application form, it would still be a little uncomfortable to read it.

Know what your partner is looking for

The first point is that you need to know what kind of person is needed for the position you are applying for.

The college mentor, in fact, is the assistant of the freshman counselor, the first trusted elder of the new students after entering the university. So if you have the following experience will be very popular.

• Student work or community experience

Students who have done student work or have the experience of clubs and student organizations can get a lot of opportunities to deal with people in their daily work and life, and have learned how to get along better with others and how to make both sides feel comfortable in getting along. When a counselor chooses a helper, he certainly doesn’t choose someone who, despite good grades on paper, is arrogant and difficult to get along with. It’s easy to put people off.

• Be good at something

No one is perfect, it is impossible for someone to perform well in all aspects (if there is, it is mostly superficial in some aspects), so everyone in such as academic performance, engineering practical ability, interpersonal skills, art, sports and other aspects as long as there is an outstanding point, are valued by the other side.

• Proper manners and attitudes

The guide students are responsible for the college’s welcome work, and they are also the people who communicate most with freshmen at the beginning of university. If a mentor is very abrupt in his dealings with others, it can be a disaster for the new student.

Analyze what kind of person you are

In every kind of campaign, it’s easy to know what the other side is looking for, especially if you’re running for a job or running for a job. Some of the requirements may already be written down, and a little analysis can lead to conclusions.

But the most difficult thing for a person is to know what kind of person he is, and the most difficult thing is to know himself better than others.

All of you are very good at some aspects of the people, the above requirements must not be difficult to achieve, that empathy, why the interviewer must choose you rather than others, you must give him the reason to choose.

About this, I also made some summaries of myself before the interview last year. All the information mentioned in this article will be provided to you at the end of the article after desensitization, hoping to be of little help to you.

Last year’s interview was conducted by online Tencent conference video, usually many interviews are similar, there are some small skills can be used.

Good mental attitude

Interviewers want to see a good mental outlook and a sunny image of the interviewer during the interview. We don’t have to be handsome or beautiful, just wear decent clothes and smile.

Prepare in advance

This preparation is multifaceted.

First of all, can like I mentioned above, organize their own interview self-introduction ideas. No matter how awesome you are in any presentation, don’t forget to conclude by reiterating your strengths. That’s the strength of my mind map. Maybe the counselor couldn’t remember how awesome I was when I introduced myself (of course it wasn’t 😂), but I did brag about it, and I ended up laying out a list of my strengths to impress the interviewers and give them a reason to choose me over someone else.

Secondly, if the interview is an online Tencent meeting, then you can write another manuscript. We experienced the epidemic during the network class speech, should have learned how to put the manuscript on the computer screen last year, but also can let the other party feel you are looking at the lens of it (if not, recently can grasp a practice 😂). That way, you won’t have to memorize a speech, and it’ll be easier to get through the interview.

Of course, you also need to be prepared to deal with some problems. I can give you some ideas, and you can think about how these questions might be best answered.

• How do you feel about our college freshmen spending four years in Shahe Campus? (” How else? Just look at it as usual!” 😂 has xu Jingyu teacher that flavor ~)

• If a parent complains to you… Question, how would you answer? (This, of course, requires official language.)

• What was the biggest challenge you faced in your student work? How did you solve it? (This is not a question to complain about how hard a student job is.)

• …

Last year, I participated in the recruitment consulting work of the school in my hometown, so I am quite familiar with this idiom. For some questions about school policy, the answer is yes 🤓. If you stop at this point, you may not have answered the question well. You can elaborate on your view of the matter and why you think the policy is reasonable and worthy of support. You may need to use the same tactics to convince freshmen and their parents 😂).

One final technique is to answer questions that lead the interviewer to the questions you have prepared.

For example, the first question I was asked last year was “what do you think of the four years spent in Shahe as a freshman?” When I answered, I mentioned that AS the monitor, I led my classmates to move. The next question would naturally segue to “difficulties students encounter in their work” or something like that.

Common mentality

I hope to share with you that mentorship is actually an opportunity to exercise your ability. It is an honor to get the opportunity. Even if you don’t get it, it doesn’t mean that you deny your ability.

This is how I act as a mentor

It is a heavy responsibility to guide and train new people.

This is what I did during my year as a guide.

First of all, I knew my limitations, so I called my good brothers to be assistant guides. They have taken an examination of the grade of the first and second academic performance (commonly known as volume king 🤫), there are code ability super big man, there are mines at home, so the mentality is super good, never volume of the eldest brother. I hope that as soon as the freshmen enter the university, they can see that there are many ways to go. It is no longer the case that the whole world heard only one word — postgraduate guarantee.

In daily management, I prefer to let them autonomy, I elected the class committee very early, and then the class committee team led the whole class to move forward together. My own workload reduced a lot 😂, the new students also got exercise, kill two birds with one stone.

I also see before there are guides like reluctant parents 😂, the class of students care to help meticulous, of course, they will harvest a closer relationship with the new students, and the new students will take a lot of detours in the beginning with their help. But I still firmly believe that the detours to take, not one meter less. In the capital of trial and error when bold try, in order to go more stable, go further.

Now I have been mixed in this college for two years, and I must be a little more sophisticated than I was a year ago. If GIVEN another chance, IN addition to the cultivation mode I always believe in above, I also hope to offer the following help to freshmen.

• Don’t set limits in your life.
• The first book you read in college shouldn’t be calculus or linear algebra.
• Never!!!!! Never!!!!! Do not choose too many quality education elective courses, your diversified credits play a game is enough, if one is not enough, then play another!

In previous years, I can stay in the lab. Make sure you have an idea of these key points and plan ahead.

In fact, to sum up, my guiding ideas have not changed, or do not excessively pursue grades, there are many ways to choose from university, life is not the only standard answer. Just a few more mixed in the school credit’s small suggestion 😂.

How I felt as a guide

Then I met a lot of interesting souls! Whether it’s 20, 19, 17, 18. I feel very honored.

Seeing the excellent development of grade 20 students, I sincerely feel happy for them, and also secretly rejoice for my wise decision of “advocating autonomy” 😂.

All in all, I was happy, and if I didn’t have some other plans at the beginning of next semester, I would try to get re-elected.
