This is the first article I participated in beginners’ introduction.

I have been working on the Oacle database for a long time, but I gradually started to get to know PostgreSql due to my work. Here is my initial understanding of PostgreSql.

  • I heard it’s an open source database

This should be the main reason for me to get in touch with this database, because it is open source, independent and controllable, and the secondary development cost is low. In addition, there is a general trend of going IOE in China. Many Oracle databases around me are being replaced by PostgreSql or its derivative products.

  • I hear it’s a powerful database

Compatible with standard SQL92,SQL2003 query language, support C, C++, Perl, Python, Java, Tcl, PHP and other mainstream development languages, support rich data types, these features make many program functions can be directly implemented in the database, do not need to write code, greatly saving development resources.

  • I hear it’s a stable database

PostgreSql has an active community that releases patches every three months, which means known bugs can be fixed quickly and support requests can be responded to in the community.

  • I hear it’s a very popular database

Japan Telecom (NTT) uses PostgreSql extensively instead of Oracle database. The federal government is in the PostgreSql camp. France is also pushing government agencies to adopt the PostgreSql database. At present, Alibaba, Tencent, Huawei and Qunar are also using PostgreSql in a large number of domestic databases based on PostgreSql secondary development, such as Hangao, Gauss, TBase and so on.

Affected by the surrounding environment, can no longer stick to the original Oracle position.
