Career choice, the most important is nothing more than city and company choice. Choosing a city is a very subjective matter. When it comes to Beijing, one of the unavoidable problems is hukou. However, I strongly do not suggest that you decide your whole life based on a hukou, for example, you do not want to enter the system, but for a hukou. Make sure you think about your career direction first before considering hukou.
Many people will be obsessed with the system/system outside, big company/small company such as the obvious choices, but these are only superficial, the same system, there may be different changes. A good approach is to figure out what you really want and then look for the right job opportunity. It is true that not everyone can think clearly about what they want. So LET me take this question apart to see what job choice really means.
Here are some questions to consider:
What do you want most from your job? The money? Power? A sense of accomplishment? Or do you want nothing out of your job?
How much of your life do you want work to be
You have more confidence in the resources you gain at work (networking, information, etc.) and the ability to improve through work that you can transfer to other environments
Do you prefer to do routine clerical work or do you want to continue to challenge difficult problems
For each of the above questions, there is no better answer. For example, challenging difficult problems is not better than doing regular work. It is simply a choice based on personal values.
Any combination of these choices, I believe, can find the right opportunity. For example, if you don’t expect to get something from your job, you don’t want to work too much in your life, and you are willing to do regular work, you can consider some marginal units in the system. If you want to have power, you can let work occupy a lot of time in your life. If you want to accumulate resources through work, you can consider the core and powerful units within the system. If you want to make money and want to improve your ability through work, programmer is a good choice.
Think of the above questions, you can choose the company. Many times, we may not be able to find and smoothly enter a place that meets all the requirements. This is ok, we can use job-hopping to solve one part of the problem at a time, and continue to collect information and improve the ability to find the right opportunity, and be able to obtain this opportunity.
I would like to talk about my consideration of several key choices based on my own experience.
When I first graduated, my expectation was to get a Beijing hukou and stay in the Internet industry. At that time, I had two choices. One was to compete for SSP offer in an Internet company, but I didn’t have enough ability at that time, so it was difficult to go this way. Another way is to find opportunities within the system to approach the Internet scene, preferably c-end products for ordinary users, because in this way, I can have enough users and data, so that I will not be too far away from the advanced technology in the industry. Fortunately, I found such an opportunity and successfully seized it. After I joined the company, it was basically as I expected. Although the technical level of the company was not high and there were many problems in the corporate culture, the business scene was very good. I also had ample opportunities to exert myself and learned a lot through work.
The next problem I had to solve was the experience in big factories, so I only considered a few big factories in the next job hopping. About the work itself, there is nothing to say, although this experience is very unhappy, but the goal I hope to achieve has also been achieved, so there is no regret.
In the next job-hopping, I hope to solve three problems: to significantly increase my income and eliminate the income gap between me and my peers caused by staying in state-owned enterprises for a long time; Don’t work too much overtime; Relationships are lighter. These three questions seem contradictory, don’t they? But hard work always leads to opportunities, and that’s how I came to my current company. Of course, not all problems were solved perfectly, but it was enough to make my work experience very happy.
As you can see from my own experience, I always seem to make conflicting demands, always want to have my cake and eat it, and get lucky with both. In fact, there are so many companies in the world, it does not mean that there are necessarily two conditions that contradict each other. There is no need to give up what early, for example, to be a programmer must mean 996, means to give up life? Apparently not.
There are two more detailed questions that can be derived from this, and I’ll say them as well.
One is whether to choose Beijing hukou.
Let me start by saying what I have gained from this account. First, I caught up with the surging housing price in 15 or 16 years, which greatly increased the family assets even when I had no idea about financial management. This I think in today, has not been established, housing does not fry the premise, even if the house in Beijing, it is impossible to run over the stock market. The second point is that some procedures are a little more convenient, which I think can be ignored, it is estimated that a year can not do a thing, and more and more procedures also support different processing. Third, it is safe to let children receive education in Beijing without worrying about the uncertainty of the future. Why DO I say it is uncertain? I think it is very uncertain whether non-Beijing students will still be unable to take the college entrance examination in Beijing after nearly 20 years. There is also great uncertainty about how difficult Beijing’s college entrance examination will be. Beijing hukou, I can only say that my future choice is fixed, but it is hard to say what effect this choice will have in the future.
So, at the moment, a Beijing hukou has very little value. Back in 2015, I would still choose Beijing hukou without hesitation. But if I had to make that choice today in 2021, I probably wouldn’t.
The second point is about dachang experience.
My view on this is that you have to have it, and you have to have it early, but you don’t have to stay in a big company all your life. The value of dachang experience, in fact, many people have said very clear, so I do not want to repeat. If you are interested, please contact me privately.
In the above section, it is mainly about the choice of direction. Having chosen the direction, there is also the important issue of the choice of specific company. In the face of a company, there are actually two questions to consider:

In my first job, I got the business scenario of hukou and Internet. At the same time, they will lose learning resources, excellent company atmosphere, high salary and so on. All these problems need to be solved by themselves.

One of the things THAT I haven’t mentioned is the midlife crisis question that people might ask. Why didn’t I mention it? Because I don’t think it’s a choice problem. Some people think that the system is stable, and that no one can do anything to you even if you muddle through. But I don’t think things that depend on external conditions can be considered stable. There have been problems within the system in history. This path may give you a 99.99% chance of staying safe for life, but what do you do if that one-in-10,000 chance happens? Being a programmer is different. Maybe THERE is only a 50% chance that I can stay in the same company smoothly, but with the improvement of my work ability, I can feel at ease to deal with the other half of the possibility. The only way to solve the midlife crisis is to improve yourself. Whether it’s to improve your abilities or to accumulate resources, you have to get something out of your job to remain competitive.
