How do I capture everything on the MacBook Air?

The quickest and easiest way to capture an entire screen on a MacBook is to use the Command + Shift + 3 keyboard shortcuts. Pressing all three keys simultaneously captures all visible items on the MacBook screen.

The screen capture will be saved to your desktop as a PNG file, and a quick preview of it will appear in the lower right corner of the screen, where you can click to preview, edit, share, or delete it. The small preview in the lower right corner will eventually disappear, so if you are taking multiple screenshots in a row, it is best to wait for a moment until the preview slide disappears.

To save screen captures to the clipboard, add controls to any MacBook Air screen captures keyboard combination.

To capture a screen capture of a particular part of a desktop or application on a MacBook Air, press Command + Shift + 4. The pointer will then turn into a crosshair for you to click and drag so that you can select the part of the screen you want to capture.

A screen capture of the selected area will be displayed as a temporary preview at the bottom right of the screen and will be saved to your desktop as a PNG file.

If you only want to capture a screenshot of an open window or application rather than the entire screen, press Command + Shift + 4 + Spacebar at the same time and click the window you want to capture the screen. The cursor changes to a small camera icon.

When you hover the mouse cursor over the application window, the application window turns blue to indicate which application is being selected.

As with other MacBook Air screen capture methods, screenshots of individual applications or Windows are saved to your desktop and displayed as a temporary clickable preview after creation.

MacBook Air laptops running MacOS Mojave or later come preloaded with an application called Screenshot. This application provides a variety of screenshot options, including more advanced features such as timed screenshots and even video recording.

Press Command + Shift + 5 to open the Screenshot application on the MacBook Air. The first option on the far left of the Screenshot menu is Capture Enentire Screen, which takes a Screenshot of everything currently displayed on the MacBook Air display. The second option on the left, Capture Selected Window, captures a screen Capture of a single open application or Window of your choice.

The third option, Capture Selected Part, may be pre-selected when you open the screen Capture application. It creates a selection tool that you can use to capture a screen capture of a specific part of the screen.

Recording the entire screen is the fourth option. Selecting this menu item will begin video recording of your desktop and any applications you are using. This is useful if you need to make a video showing someone how to do something on their own MacBook Air.

The Record Selected Part is the last main course item that can be used to Record a video of a specific Part of the screen.

The Screen Capture application’s Options menu contains a variety of ways to customize the screen capture Settings for the MacBook Air. For example, you can change how the MacBook Air screen capture is saved by selecting a different file location or application under Save To. Select another location to find a location or application that is not in the default list. This timer sets the delay between the time it takes to create the startup screenshot and the time it takes to do so. This is useful if you need to move something quickly before a screen recording or screen capture. The last three Settings under Options allow you to customize the screen capture more.

Show Floating Thumbnail: This enables or disables small previews that appear after capturing a screen capture. Remember the last selection: This option allows the selection tool to open in the same position and size as the last time you took a screenshot with it. Display the mouse pointer: This will hide or show the mouse cursor in screen shots and recordings you make on the MacBook Air.

To capture the MacBook Air’s touch bar, which is directly above the keyboard, press Command + Shift + 6.
