On March 14, 2018, Hawking flew out into space

Stephen William Hawking (born January 8, 1942 in Oxford, England) is a renowned physicist at the University of Cambridge. Main research field is cosmology and the hole, the singularity of general relativity theorem and black hole area theorem, puts forward the model of the universe black hole evaporation theory and borderless hawking, in unified the two basic theories of 20 th-century physics, Einstein’s theory of relativity and Planck founded out of the important step in quantum mechanics. He suffered from AMyotrophic lateral sclerosis at the age of 21. He was paralyzed and could not speak. Only three fingers of his hands could move. As readers of those books, they also watched the 2014 biopic “The Theory of Everything,” in which Hawking’s achievements and experiences were touched.

The black hole of time is in everyone’s hands

According to the second law of thermodynamics, time is one-way, just like everyone from birth, grow up, old, is an irreversible direction. Time is fair to everyone, better or worse is this life.

And according to the modern Big Bang model of the universe, general relativity and other theories, black holes are a special existence, any matter including light can be sucked into never return, and the bottom can not be seen. Our work and life also has this kind of phenomenon, namely the time black hole, always feel time not enough use, every day busy tired, before falling asleep at night recall today, only to find that there is no progress and achievements, continue to repeat this state of anxiety, the next day the whole energy being sucked into a giant black hole of time, there seems to be no end, can’t seem to escape.

Although the superstar Stephen Hawking has fallen, his great achievements will not be forgotten by the world. How did he manage to do this in a very limited amount of time (it takes Hawking about three minutes to type a sentence using eye movements, compared with three seconds for the average person), despite being highly disabled?

The first cause of this phenomenon is called procrastination. A lot of things seem to be going on, but nothing is getting done, nothing is getting done. The easiest place to say is “I’ll have more time tomorrow, so DON’t do it today.” Readers of this article, do you procrastinate?

The second reason is excessive perfectionism. When we discover new things, we try to cram more things into it, which leads to the confusion of priorities, which leads to the expansion of business scope and infinite delay.

The last reason is emotional. The less time you have, the more anxious you are, which leads to mistakes in busy work and higher rework costs. Couldn’t you have prepared in advance? Who doesn’t want to be relaxed and elegant?

Be a friend of time

There are many ways to deal with time black holes, and time boxes are an effective one.

Use time boxes to break large tasks into smaller tasks. Each small task is completed within the time box. Big tasks are easy to accomplish in a big time box. And small time box management can help form good time usage habits. And good time management habits can lead to long-term results.

Time boxes applied to teams can effectively prevent procrastination. For example, a junior team member may spend hours solving a problem that an experienced team member could solve in a few minutes. If a time box is used, if the problem cannot be solved within the specified time, ask for the help of a senior person to solve the problem, so that time can be used effectively. So as not to waste time on inefficient work.

Thirdly, learn from Lyubichev’s world-event log method. When doing things at ordinary times, deliberately write down the time spent on a piece of paper or in your mind. Then the next time you encounter similar things, you will not panic.

Finally, it’s about prioritizing. Don’t overdo it all at once. Break down big things into smaller tasks and short-term goals. In this way, even if you don’t complete all your tasks, you will at least have done all you need to do and have no regrets.

If you want to escape the time hole, try the Scrum way of working

The Scrum working method is now popular in the tech world. It combines scientific experiments such as time boxes to help you get more out of your life and work. Scrum was originally developed to solve complex problems. Since the early 90 s, the Scrum has been widely used in the global scope, involving more than team scale conducting market research, events, and interactive function of network, self-driving cars, cloud services and software and hardware product development, schools, government operations, the operation of the market, management organization, organizational change design and People’s Daily life. The Scrum framework is based on experimental process control theory, borrowed lean thinking, time box, modular design, etc., and fully embodies the Agile Manifesto and agile principles.

Scrum achieves better results by taking an iterative, incremental approach that optimizes future prediction and risk management and builds an organization’s agile ability to respond to change. The Scrum framework consists of three roles, three artifacts, five activities, and five values. In this framework, the process consists of several short iteration cycles (time boxes) called sprints, each of which must be less than 4 weeks in length, with the goal of limiting risk and variable costs within a month while enhancing predictability. Manage requirements for products and services using a product backlog, which is a to-do list sorted by value. In each iteration, the Scrum team selects work from the product backlog in order given by the product owner. The selected requirements are discussed, analyzed, and estimated at the Sprint Planning meeting to get the corresponding Sprint goals and delivery plan, which we call the SprintBacklog. The team self-organized daily Scrum station meetings. At the end of each Sprint, the Scrum team will invite stakeholders to review potential deliverable product increments and provide immediate feedback, as well as conduct retrospective meetings to review and fine-tune collaborative communication practices.
