Kirin Mobile Operating Environment (KMRE) integrates desktop PC and mobile devices, greatly improving the user experience and addressing the diverse application needs of users, which enriches the Linux application ecosystem. In essence, the Linux operating system and the mobile operating system can be combined into one, so that the Kirin operating system and the Unicorn operating system can support the running of mobile applications. The two systems share the same kernel and realize resource sharing.

KMRE supports X and Wayland, supports X86 and ARM architecture, supports processors including Fitum, Mega Chip, Haiguang, Huawei Kirin, Intel, AMD, etc., and supports graphics cards including NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, MALI, JJM, GP101, Mega Chip, etc.

Here are the four highlights of the latest version of KMRE:

Highlight 1: Screen sharing is done with one click

The new screen sharing scheme makes mobile applications running in the KMRE environment not only share the desktop of the mobile environment to attendees, but also adapt to the integration of the environment. Using graphical display technology, the user’s Linux desktop is shared to facilitate attendees to view the contents of the sharing desktop. Screen sharing can also be adjusted automatically according to the rotation of the display, ensuring that shared images are best displayed to other attendees.

Highlight 2: File interchange operation integration

1. KMRE provides the file manager with a plug-in for file aggregation display, through which you can access the four types of files saved by mobile applications: Pictures, video, audio, and document, the user can in the “file manager – > favorites – > mobile application” in the view, edit, and copy these files that exist in a KMRE environment, when the mobile application performs a new save file or delete the file after operation, in the file manager can be real-time dynamically refresh file list data.

2. By creating and mounting the user-space file system, the mobile application in the KMRE environment can directly access the files on Linux. For example, when WeChat sends a file, select “Mobile Storage -> 0-Kirin File” on the pop-up interface to select the files on Linux and send them to WeChat friends.

3. Drag and drop files from the Linux terminal to the graphical window of the mobile application, trigger the file sharing interface in the mobile environment through the KMRE transfer protocol and related services, and realize fast file sharing. For example, drag and drop a Doc document to the WeChat interface, you can select a friend and send the file to the friend.

The implementation of these file interchange methods improves the degree of integration between Linux and KMRE, and greatly improves the user experience.

Highlight three: the mouse operation is fast and efficient

1, picture and document zoom

New zoom mode, accurate control of zoom scale size, perfect for all mobile applications. For example, holding down the “Ctrl” key while holding the left mouse button to move forward and backward, left and right, you can zoom in and out on pictures and documents.

2. Page content scroll and refresh

The new scrolling mode of page content not only makes up for the problem that the old scheme requires the mouse wheel to fit each mobile application separately, but also increases the precision control of the mouse wheel scrolling, which can automatically adjust the height of the scrolling content according to the speed of the scrolling speed, so as to realize accurate scrolling and pull-up refresh of the page content.

Highlight 4: Local APK package installation rich and massive application experience

KMRE opens the portal to install native APK packages and provides users with an installation tool that allows them to quickly install mobile applications that are not available in the App Store, making it easy for users to experience a large number of native mobile applications on the KMRE environment. This tool not only supports double-click APK package installation, but also supports drag and drop and select files for installation. The installed mobile application can be viewed and run in the Start menu. At present, the tool is not online in the community, stay tuned!

KMRE is initially launched, and you are welcome to leave a message on the official website to feedback the problems encountered in using the Unicorn operating system.
