Recently, due to the development of the company’s business, we need to recruit technical talents. Since I am familiar with the technical aspects, the technical tasks are entrusted to me. Today I would like to share with you about the interview, mainly covering the technical process, experience and advice, to avoid some detours in the interview process in the future, to help people who need to change job interview.

Although I have participated in the interview before, I was basically an auditor and did not lead the whole interview process. Therefore, I have little experience and have only a little knowledge of the interview process. However, after this period of interview experience, I also summed up some common interview process and experience, for your reference. Of course, there have been large factory experience can be skipped, here is only for those who account for the vast majority of small and medium-sized enterprises interview.

Below, I will break down the technical interview process into three parts: the basic routine interview, the technical professional interview, and the non-technical interview.

Basic routine interview

This part of the interview is basically about who you are, your work history, and why you left or changed your job.

To introduce myself

This is basically essential. It also helps the interviewer get a quick overview of the person, known as a first impression, and gives the interviewer enough time to compare the consistency of your resume.

Tip: This session is very important and requires preparation. Make a good first impression on yourself, which is very helpful for the later interview. Need to pay attention to is, self introduction must not blow the hype, need to combine their own resume, must not and resume discrepancy is too big.

Work experience

This part mainly includes: on-the-job status, work content and so on. What kind of work did you do at your last company? What kind of work did you do?

Tip: The interviewer is trying to find out how you’re doing, what you’ve done, and whether you’re qualified for the position you’re interviewing for. Again, be honest, even though you may not have done much or the industry is a bad fit. (In fact, do technology on the industry requirements are not high, the key is your ability and you interview the company in the industry is optimistic).

Reasons for leaving/job-hopping

This question is asked 80% of the time, and usually only the reason for your last job/job change.

Tip: The interviewer is looking for your work attitude, your view of the company, and your work ethic. Try to give some positive reasons here. In particular, don’t make a direct attack on your last company — no matter how bad it was — during the interview process, which can make you look bad to the interviewer.

Technical professional interview

This part of the interview basically includes: technical questions on the resume, basic technical questions needed for the position, and some situational questions to assess technical resilience.

Combine the technical aspects of the project with the resume

The interviewer will first for your resume involved in the technical knowledge points to ask you questions, this part of the question is basically the initiative in your hands, after all, ask are your attributes of technical knowledge points, relatively easy.

Suggestions: resume as far as possible to write their own in-depth understanding of the content, for those knowledge points do not write up, do not dig for their own. And don’t include the word “proficient” in your resume, as it may make the interviewer uncomfortable. Certainly don’t write too generalities, without any depth.

Fundamental technical issues

After you’ve covered the area you’re familiar with, it’s time for basic technical questions that are more relevant to the position. This part of the assessment may not have been heard of before, or have some understanding, but also a partial understanding, very vague, relatively difficult overall.

Tip: Most of this is related to the job requirements and the skill level of the interviewer. This part of the question is usually difficult because you are not familiar with it, but it is best not to just say “I don’t know” or “I haven’t done it”. You can speculate based on the similar content that you have done, which shows your analytical and thinking ability to the interviewer.

Situational technical problems

In this part, the interviewer may ask you a question about a current problem with the project, or a technical question that the interviewer was very impressed with or proud of.

Suggestion: here the interviewer mainly wants to examine your ability to deal with emergencies and solve problems and the ability to work under pressure, which is a more comprehensive assessment content. From your answer, the interviewer can intuitively understand your actual work ability, psychological quality, the ability to analyze and deal with problems, teamwork ability and so on.

This, in part because of the bizarre nature of the question, does not offer valuable advice. In short, one is, do not be nervous, mentality to put right, know how much to say how much, just as the leader to you a task, you to solve is, anyway, he will not stare at you to complete 😅

Non-technical interview

Can face to this part of the people, basically the technology is generally no problem. This part mainly includes the investigation of personal learning ability, teamwork ability and personal career planning.

The ability to learn

This part mainly examines the interviewer’s interest in technology and the ability to learn and summarize.

FAQ:

  • How do you accumulate and summarize in your work?
  • Do you plan to study outside of work? How do you balance work, study and life?
  • Do you usually learn about new technologies? From what sources?

Advice:

1. Try to set aside time for reflection and summary at work. If time permits, try to write a blog. 2. Pay attention to several tech communities and recommend the “gold mining” community. 3. If you can, consider writing open source projects and running your own Github.

Team work ability

This part will test your understanding of the company’s work, consistency, and ability to work as a team.

FAQ:

  • Why do you think you like this job?
  • What role do you like to play in a team?
  • What do you think about teamwork?

Advice:

1. Interview is a two-way process. Since the company recruit you to come over for an interview, it is certain that you have had an understanding of the company, so you should have a certain understanding of the interview of the company, do not be confused to come over for an interview. 2. The company hires you to come here is to work, since the work must be inseparable from the team, so try to team collaboration, team consistency.

Personal Career Planning

This is the part where you test whether your personality matches the position, whether your interests, values and motivations match the position, and whether you are qualified for the job.

FAQ:

  • What do you think are your strengths?
  • What are your career plans?
  • What are your expectations or plans for your future work?

Advice:

The interviewer doesn’t really care about where you want to be in your career. They’re more interested in whether you’ll be here three to five years from now.

So, answer in a way that shows both ambition (achievement motivation) and peace of mind. Do not show how powerful, so that people feel a little floating, not stable.

Is there anything you can ask me?

The interviewer will probably follow up this list with a rhetorical question, “Is there anything you can ask me?” “The last thing you want to do is look at the interviewer blankly and say,” No problem.”

In fact, this is a very good opportunity to take the initiative to show their own, for such an opportunity must be cherished, the following questions for reference:

  • What is the development goal of this department in the future XXX?
  • What are the future development plans of the company/project team?
  • Do not know the company in the new entry, whether will arrange the relevant technical training?
  • I have expertise in XXX. Could I use it in your company?

The bottom line is that asking questions about the company will help you learn more about the company and show your interest in the company. Don’t blindly ask questions that don’t make any sense. Don’t keep asking questions that are relevant to your immediate interests, which may make the interviewer think that you are too eager for quick success.
