There are 1000 rare earth nuggets in 1000 users’ eyes. The following is a review of my use of the rare earth nuggets plugin in my time, with some questions and suggestions, just for my personal opinion (pretend to be a design + test + product).

UI design

One of my favorite UI designs for the rare-earth mining TAB is its dark night mode. Here’s a picture to give you an idea.

In dark mode, the entire page is divided into six sections by default: top menu bar, Search & Quick Guide, Nuggets, external content, Quick Tools and boiling point.

The overall contrast of white characters on black background is high, giving people a strong visual impact, and you can quickly browse to the plate you need. This design is especially suitable for the scene where the new TAB page is opened and stays briefly.

Next comes its day mode, tool layout mode, which is the default layout.

Overall, the background color of git repo makes it difficult for me to quickly find the required plate. The problem is even worse on larger screens.

The long blue block and git repo background color make the TAB page very confusing. Compare this to the night pattern.

It’s still clear between the plates. The reason why I emphasize the section here is that the stay in the TAB page is short, you need to find the tool you need or the content you want to see and click in a very short time.

The user experience

The experience is great on the big screen, adding navigation, viewing nuggets, Github, boiling points, etc. But when you look at the small screen, the browsing experience degrades considerably.

Because the height is fixed at 100%, very little content can be seen on a small screen.

The overall layout is very compact, which makes me a little dazzled. But when I look at the upper right corner, there is a layout icon. Unfortunately, it does not remind me that this is to adjust the layout, so I can only see it after clicking.

Bugs I encountered

  1. Nothing is hidden until you click on a drop-down box, but this may either be a Bug or it may feel strange.

  1. Unable to save notes? My plugin version number is 0.7.3, Chrome version 96.0.4664.110 (official) (64-bit)

  1. After clicking on the modify shortcut navigation, the dropdown menu is still there, and it is still a little strange that it is not displayed at the bottom of the three dots.

Some functional suggestions

  1. I want to add some tools, such as regular RegExr, JSON formatting, and so on. It is better to support customization, automatic sorting by frequency of use, folding beyond one line.
  2. Tools can be found in the right click of a web page, rather than just opening a new TAB and clicking use.
  3. Quick navigation sorted by click frequency.
  4. Display search only is supported in the layout, and custom display location and display content is provided, not limited to the three provided layouts to meet different user needs.
  5. Background colors can be customized using a palette.
  6. The icon in the upper right corner adds a light reminder when the mouse moves up.
  7. The boiling point screens the circles.

Write in the last

I hope the gold digging plug-in will get better and better. In the three use scenarios of clicking the extension, right-clicking the web page and opening the TAB page, I will optimize the experience for each scenario and make a popular Chrome extension.
