Last week, OSCHINA announced the most popular Chinese open source software for 2019.

Davinci, an open source visualization service platform independently developed and developed by the Central Taiwan Department of Creditease Technology Center, entered the list and ranked second in the sub-category of “enterprise software”.

Let’s first introduce Davinci, an excellent visualization service platform.

Davinci is a Data Visualization as a Service (DVAAS) platform solution for business people/Data engineers/Data analysts/Data scientists dedicated to providing one-stop Data Visualization solutions.

It can be deployed independently as a public/private cloud or integrated into a third-party system as a visual plug-in. Users can serve a variety of data visualization applications with simple configuration on the visualization UI, and support advanced interaction/industry analysis/pattern exploration/social intelligence and other visualization features.

This may not be obvious to many people, but let’s give you a concrete example of what this software can do. (Click on the full case for details)

For example, year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter are important indicators to measure the change in the cyclical growth rate of a certain data of an enterprise, but it is difficult to compare the growth rate only by looking at the data. At this time, we need the help of visualization tools.

Below is a table called “ABD Virtual Cinema Data”. These are simply made-up figures that include year, month, number of shows, attendance, box office and advertising revenue at the top.

We omit here the process of entering and editing these data into Davinci’s 10,000 words. Next, let’s show you Davinci’s schematic diagram of year-on-year quarter:

The cold data in Excel suddenly came to life, didn’t it? As shown in the figure above, in Davinci’s selectable display final setting display, users can change the background color or upload the background picture, upload the chart they want to show, and arrange it into their favorite shape. The style is optional, isn’t it convenient, intuitive and good-looking?

Better all alone than all. In September 2017, Davinci decided to officially open source on Gitthub. In April 2018, Davinci had its first release 0.1.0, and the latest release is 0.3.0-Beta.8.

Xu Xiang, head of Davinci RESEARCH and development in The Data Center of the Science and Technology Center, introduced that Davinci began to develop in April 2017. “At that time, we hoped to have a BI tool with the following characteristics to improve the construction of the data platform, in order to achieve four requirements: SQL as the center; Self-service, simple operation, easy to use; Meet basic reporting and visual presentation requirements, extensible; You can manage data permissions and function permissions.”

At the time, however, there were no suitable tools available in commercial or open source software, so my colleagues in the Data Center decided to build one of their own. Davinci was first used inside CreditEase in August 2017. After a trial run, they decided to open source the software.

Xu Xiang said, “it would Davinci open source, is mainly due to the Davinci is originally from the Angle of the generalized tool to design, it is not in order to solve a particular problem, so we think it not only can solve the company’s internal various statements and visual requirements, in the technical community can also be assigned to more business, Enhance creditEase’s technological influence.”

When talking about the reasons and advantages of this award, Xu Xiang thinks: “This may be because Davinci can more accurately cut into the user enterprise construction and operation of the pain points encountered, really save time and economic investment for users, improve efficiency, so users through voting to express our recognition.”
