preface

This tutorial will show you how to use Lazy Nezumi Pro’s various smoothing options to get better looking (smooth) lines. Whether you’re doing a quick sketch or working on meticulous line art, you’ll be able to find Settings that complement your style and help you work faster.

When experimenting with Settings, you can create a new empty preset from the Preset/New menu. Then click the arrow button to the right of the preset list to expand the UI and see all the different sections.

The results are as follows

Lazy Nezumi Pro can be used with a mouse or graphics tablet, but a tablet is recommended for best results. The tablet pen is pressure sensitive and can control the thickness and opacity of the line. You can’t do that with a mouse. Mouse accuracy is also much lower, so you may need to increase the amount of smoothing to get good results.

If you don’t want to cover all the Settings, use the smooth preset that comes with Lazy Nezumi Pro. For most people, subtlety, scale and line presets are a good place to start. If you want to know how to fine-tune the program for maximum benefit, read on!

Pulled String mode

The first mode option in the Position Smoothing section is called the loop.

This mode is ideal for slow and detailed line work. It makes your brush act like it’s tied to a string you can pull. You can control the Length of the rope with the String Length parameter slider. The longer the string, the less sensitive your strokes are to number and hand shaking.

The brush moves only when the string is fully extended, which makes it easy to draw sharp corners. Note that in this mode, the line is drawn as soon as the pen is lifted
