MOSN hosted its first community meeting of 2022 on February 24.

The MOSN community came up with a Roadmap for the coming year at the conference, where members shared their experiences of how MOSN falls in different scenarios, and opened their imaginations to explore more possibilities we could create.

MOSN community Roadmap

MOSN’s main goal in 2022 is to release MOSN 1.0 and open source a new out-of-the-box product. At the same time, MOE (MOSN 2.0 architecture) evolution is promoted to connect more ecological components.

With more and more MOSN landing users, stability construction is also the focus of this year’s development direction, so that we can rest assured.

Community meeting sharing guests

Users from Tantan Technology, Aliyun and Qunar actively shared their use cases in this conference for reference.

Sound out of science and technology

Xie Zhengyao listed in detail the problems and pits encountered in the landing process of MOSN, which provided a good idea for the follow-up optimization of MOSN.

There are a lot of potholes we have scheduled and MOSN developers are on their way to fill them.

Ali cloud

Mu yi outlined the plans for the new fiscal year, shared the tenant split of the edge across cluster service discovery scenario, and the new deployment format.

Where is the net

Jialong pays more attention to GC in Roadmap, hoping to introduce some high-performance network framework and have more demands on performance optimization.

And holmes is looking forward to MOSN community, hoping to solve the problem when the problem.

QA review

1.Q: What are the landing scenes and best practices of MOE?

A: Details will be shared at the First Service Mesh Summit 2022. There will be more landing scenes this year, in the attempt to replace the access layer gateway, will also pilot online, you can expect!

2.Q: Can I interpret this as — if MOE is received by Envoy, I can write a filter through Go code and let it run on the Envoy, and then MY data link will just use Envoy?

A: Yes, that’s the idea. Now we can play with the demo, but some interfaces are not standardized, and sofagw is the architecture that we have implemented internally.

3. Discussion on GC optimization methods

A :(1) reducing GC frequency is indeed effective and can reduce the repeated mark of long-lived objects. (2) However, such pre-allocation is actually not very flexible. The best thing is to dynamically adjust GC Percent to keep GC goal at the expected water level.

This is essentially a memory-for-CPU scheme that raises the water level of GC goal when there is enough memory.

We considered this situation when we were working on Holmes memory exception capture. Uncledou. Site / 2022 / go – PPR…

At this meeting, you have spoken freely and opened your imagination. It is the communication with users that makes MOSN development planning and user needs complementary.

Thanks for your active cooperation. With your help, the MOSN community will continue to promote performance optimization, technology implementation, and growth together with users.

We also hold community meetings later on, for example when MOSN releases a new version or when there is a big development. Listen to user feedback, keep abreast of industry trends, looking forward to the next meeting
