There are many terminal tools in the software market today, such as secureCRT, Putty, Telnet, and so on. SecureCRT is also a powerful terminal tool that Yoshi has been using for a long time, but is not allowed in the company as it is paid software. Moreover, on Ryoshi’s own computer, as soon as he typed capital letters, the whole interface became messy (for unknown reasons), which directly caused Ryoshi to abandon it.

Putty, which is very small and free, is used a lot in our company. However, Ryoshi didn’t like it because it was really hard to use. It didn’t support tags, and it required multiple Windows to open multiple sessions, and it was very inconvenient to switch between Windows. Therefore, Ryoshi abandoned it after using it for a month or two.

Of course, there are other terminal tools, such as XShell, which are too useless to comment on.

This article will solemnly launch a collection of thousands in a versatile terminal artifact — MobaXterm! This artifact was introduced to me by my master. When I used it for the first time, I fell in love with it deeply. It was really a brief encounter.

Let’s talk about the advantages of this artifact:

  1. Very powerful, support SSH, FTP, serial port, VNC, X Server and other functions;

  2. Support labels, switching is also very convenient;

  3. Many shortcut keys, easy to operate;

  4. There are rich plug-ins that can further enhance functionality;

  5. There’s a paid version, but the free version already allows us to go to heaven…

Of course, the advantages and functions are far more than these, and more flash points are expected to be discovered by readers!

Nonsense so much, the following into the teaching stage.

1. Software installation

Go directly to the official website to download, there is a free version to download. Of course, you don’t mind if you’re rich enough to buy the premium version. The free version is available not only as an install version, but also as an install-free green version, which we can even copy to a USB drive at home with all the same configuration.

2. Create an SSH session

After installation, the interface looks like this.

Of course you’re not going to have any sessions as soon as you’ve installed it. Let’s create the first SSH session.

Click the menu bar “Sessions” –> “New Session” to pop up the “Session Setting” dialog box. The power of a Moba can be seen from the list of connections above.

Click on the first SSH icon and fill in the information to complete the session creation.

Click OK and enter your password to connect to the virtual machine. And after the virtual machine, it will automatically connect to the virtual machine through FTP, directly drag and drop files can be copied.

3. Quickly connect to sessions

Once you have created a session, you can leave its information in the session TAB on the left and double-click it the next time you need to connect.

4. Create a serial port session

The following describes how to create a serial port session.

As in step 2, select Serial from the “Session Setting” dialog box, select the serial number and baud rate, and click OK to complete the connection.

The session will also be saved in the session TAB on the left for the next connection.

5. A few useful Settings

5.1 Hide the row of buttons under the menu bar

The row of buttons under the menu bar is a bit of a chicken. All of them can be found in the menu bar and are not used very often. Besides, most of the screen is rectangular, the upper and lower space is limited, and the left and right sides are still more surplus, so it can save a lot of space.

Click “View” –> “Show menu bar” in the menu bar to hide this row button.

5.2 Right-click Paste

In Moba and many terminal tools, there is a function to copy files with the left mouse button and paste text with the right mouse button. But in Moba, right click paste function is not enabled by default, we can manually enable it.

On the menu bar, click “Settings” > “Configuration”, select “Terminal” in the dialog box that is displayed, and then check “Paste Using right-click”.

5.3 Disabling automatic SFTP eject

After the Moba connects to the remote computer, the SFTP sidebar on the left opens automatically. Sometimes you don’t need SFTP, and the main window is black and SFTP is white, which is a bit harsh, so you can turn off the automatic popup SFTP.

On the menu bar, click “Settings” –> “Configuration”. In the dialog box that pops up, select “SSH”. Then uncheck automaticall switch to Ssh-Browser TAB after login.

6. Summary

This article covers three connection methods: SSH, FTP, serial, and three useful Settings. Of course, Moba has a lot more than that, but these three connections are the most basic and most commonly used, so I’ll start with them. Stay tuned for more advanced uses of Moba in future posts!
