1. BLE(or BTLE) is a key feature of Bluetooth V4.0 that will once again redefine the way Bluetooth technology is used. Bluetooth Low Power Continues the spirit of “traditional” Bluetooth technology, including low-cost, short-range, interoperable, working in the license-free 2.4ghz ISM rf band, while adding innovative ultra-low power operation modes that offer a variety of new types of use cases and application possibilities. 2. Features of Bluetooth Low Power Technology: Ultra-low power performance is achieved by three features of Bluetooth low power technology: maximum standby time, fast connection, and low peak send/receive power consumption. 3. Standby time difference: Bluetooth single mode device is a new chip that only supports Bluetooth low energy technology. Single-mode chips can run for a long time (months or even years) with a single button battery (such as the 3V, 220mAh CR2032). In contrast, standard Bluetooth technologies (and Bluetooth low-power dual-mode devices) typically require at least two AAA batteries (10 to 12 times as powerful as button batteries, which can tolerate much higher peak currents) and, more often than not, only work for a few days or weeks at most, depending on the application. 4. Connection technology differences: Standard Bluetooth is a “connection-oriented” wireless technology with fixed connection intervals, making it ideal for mobile phones to connect to high-activity connections such as wireless headphones. In contrast, Bluetooth low-power technology uses a variable connection interval, which can range from a few milliseconds to a few seconds depending on the application. In addition, because BLE technology adopts very fast connection mode, it can be in the “disconnected” state (saving energy) at ordinary times. At this time, both ends of the link only know each other, open the link only when necessary, and then close the link in the shortest possible time. 5. BLE features and Advantages: Low-power Bluetooth technology inherits the advantages of traditional Bluetooth technology (referred to as Bluetooth before version 4.0), such as frequency hopping technology. The technology of high efficiency discovery mechanism, few data channels and wide channel interval, introduction of broadcast packet, fast connection establishment, introduction of data bits, low operating current and ultra-low sleep current is used to achieve the goal of lower power consumption, smaller code space and lower cost. Examples are as follows: Efficient discovery mechanism: Low-power Bluetooth uses only 3 channels as broadcast channels, allowing rapid connection establishment at the millisecond level, which is much more efficient than traditional Bluetooth 32 channels. Low data channels and wide channel spacing: Traditional Bluetooth has 79 data channels with 1MHz channel spacing; Low power bluetooth has 40 data channels with an interval of 2MHz. Low operating current and ultra-low sleep current: Traditional Bluetooth typically has a peak operating current of 35mA and a sleep current of 0.01mA. The peak operating current of low power Bluetooth is less than 15mA and the current in sleep state is 0.004mA. Limit peak power: Bluetooth low-power technology can limit peak power in two other ways: by using more “loose” rf parameters and by sending very short data packets. Both technologies use Gaussian Frequency shift keying (GFSK) modulation, but Bluetooth Low Power uses a modulation index of 0.5, compared with 0.35 for standard Blue Tooth. The index of 0.5 is close to the Gaussian minimum frequency shift keying (GMSK) scheme, which can reduce the power requirement of wireless devices. 6. BLE mode of operation: THE MODE of operation of BLE technology is ideal for transmitting data from tiny wireless sensors (exchanging data every half second) or other peripherals such as remote controls that communicate completely asynchronously. These devices send very small amounts of data (usually a few bytes) and very few times (e.g., a few times per second to once per minute, or even less). 7. BLE outlook: Bluetooth 4.0 standard has been developed by Bluetooth SIG to promote the second wave of Development of Bluetooth. New standards is the most remarkable changes in low energy bluetooth technology, not only can be a bluetooth device of standby time from 3 to 4 days to 1 years, and can be bluetooth from standby to work a few seconds time shortened 3 milliseconds, in addition to optimize the design of the protocol should be greatly expanded use of flexibility, for the application of bluetooth opens up new markets. Low energy Bluetooth technology will become one of the main technologies of the Internet of Things to achieve near-range wireless communication, and promote the innovative application of the Internet of Things. 8. Bluetooth 4.0 is a combination of traditional Bluetooth, low power Bluetooth and high speed Bluetooth, and supports dual mode and single mode applications. Dual Mode is a combination of low-power Bluetooth and traditional Bluetooth (2.1+EDR/3.0+HS). Bluetooth Smart Ready is the trademark for mobile phones, tablets, PCS and televisions. Single mode only supports low-power Bluetooth technology, corresponding to the “Bluetooth Smart” brand. It is designed for highly integrated, compact devices, such as heart rate monitors and pedometers, that use button batteries to collect specific information, like sensors. The iPhone 4S and later models already support Bluetooth 4.0, and Intel and Microsoft are adding bluetooth 4.0 support to their new products. Bluetooth 4.0 devices and applications will tend to grow rapidly. Low energy Bluetooth has the advantages of stronger anti-interference, faster data transmission, higher work efficiency, and connection with mobile phones/computers. It has unparalleled technical and market advantages, especially suitable for short-distance, small amount of data, and infrequent operation application scenarios.
