Human trafficking has been around for a long time. In recent years, behind the seemingly calm, but in fact, the waves are surging, showing an increasingly fierce trend.

In 2019, the “death van” case in the UK shocked the world, completely breaking the false calm and allowing “human trafficking”, a cancer hidden in the glamorous society, to surface again.

Human trafficking is now a multi-billion dollar industry globally, and cases are growing in the United States, where it has become an invisible gray industry.

Human trafficking has unknowingly become the third largest criminal industry after arms and drugs, and its growth rate is far higher than the former two. It is called “the fastest growing crime in the world” by Interpol, affecting 2 to 4 million people.

Modern slavery has far-reaching consequences, with human trafficking as a typical crime affecting families across the globe. Now, social scientists, developers and law enforcement are working together to reduce the number of trafficking victims.

All investigators are at a loss when trying to track down and apprehend these criminals. To make matters worse, even if a trafficker runs an empire, he may be charged with only one crime.

Artificial intelligence has many practical uses in marketing and customer service, but can the technology stop open human trade? To solve the problem once and for all with ARTIFICIAL intelligence, an organization called Delta 8.7, made up of the UNU Centre for Policy Research, the Alan Turing Institute, the Computer Community Consortium, Anti-Trafficking Technologies and independent donors, is working together to try.

Image based machine learning recognition

Image-based AI programs are evolving and helping Delta 8.7 investigators catch sex traffickers and people involved in slave labor. The original idea behind these programs was Slavery from Space, which uses satellites in Space to track hot spots for forced labor to prevent people from becoming victims and save those currently living under modern Slavery.

The technology analyzes data based on poverty levels, population numbers, survivors’ self-reports and where they actually live to determine whether the work being done in those locations is legal. Satellites can track active mines, for example, and determine whether people there are victims of trafficking or legitimate employees.

Artificial intelligence imaging software can not only identify vast areas, but also determine data related to entire locations. There are programs that can track individuals through their photos. The software can take images and scan the person’s photo over a smaller or larger area of the Internet. Based on the collected analysis data, the program can pinpoint and identify photos of missing people more quickly than a real person searching for thousands of clues.

Case tracking

Ai programs help investigators track and manage human trafficking cases. The technology has multiple uses, each of which plays a crucial role in tracking down and apprehending these criminals.

For example, AI can provide investigators with information about the personality traits, habits and lifestyles of traffickers. The researchers take this information and build profiles, which they then feed into the mapping software mentioned earlier.

In addition, law enforcement can analyze the data of trafficking survivors to determine the strengths and weaknesses that ultimately led them to become victims. The data could help psychologists and law enforcement officials work with victims to catch those behind the trafficking ring.

Mining data to catch criminals

The hardest part of tracking down traffickers and victims is sorting through the endless stream of leads. There are only so many hours in the day that people spend reading Craigslist posts and emails. After reading through the data, investigators are tasked with looking for common clues and clues that could prevent future crimes.

Ai is known to be good at crunching large amounts of data and turning it into tangible information in seconds. Google and Facebook have mastered the technology, allowing business owners to reach their target audience and post relevant ads, while consumers can connect with like-minded individuals through dynamic groups and friend suggestions.

Delta8.7 is trying to develop an ai program that looks at information through social media, email, etc., to replicate the results and, more importantly, to try to catch traffickers in action. The goal is to create an interconnected global network that actively tracks and destroys clandestine trafficking.

Today, artificial intelligence has countless uses. Machine learning software is being used in everything from marketing campaigns to medical diagnostics. It’s no surprise that AI technology can help case workers who want to catch traffickers.

Moreover, with the progress of technology, the application and innovation of ARTIFICIAL intelligence in criminal cases and in the whole industry technology are obvious to all.

Hopefully, one day, it will actually stop more crimes from happening and avoid tragedies like the “British death van case”.
