Flag 1: Baidu is about to release L4 autonomous driving mass production passenger cars cooperated with FAW Red Flag


Baidu cooperated with FAW Hongqi to jointly create China’s first L4 automatic driving mass production passenger car, and released the mass production plan: in 2019, a small number of production line demonstration operation, in 2020, a large number of operation in more cities.

The car, a collaboration between Baidu and China’s FAW, is a new Red Flag model. Through the perfect combination of HONGqi R.FLAG and Baidu Apollo, the company has built China’s first mass-produced L4 autonomous passenger car. Using Internet thinking to solve traffic problems is outdated, Baidu is using AI thinking to do intelligent traffic


In order to solve the problem of urban traffic congestion in the new era, Baidu advocates a new way of thinking — AI thinking.


Compared to AI, the Internet is an outdated idea. Internet thinking is just sampling the data and may only reduce congestion times by 10-15%; AI thinking, on the other hand, uses full and real-time data to solve traffic problems, reducing congestion time by 30-40%.


Intelligent transportation built with AI thinking is characterized by comprehensive perception, comprehensive decision-making and real-time control, which can greatly improve the efficiency of urban transportation and improve people’s living experience.


AI City in the video shows two key technologies for building intelligent transportation:


1. Vehicle-road coordination. Taking an intersection with complex traffic conditions as an example, vehicle-road coordination is equipped with “perfect perspective” roadside sensing equipment, which can break the limitations of human drivers and vehicle-mounted sensors in perspective and line of sight, and eliminate hidden dangers to the greatest extent.

Baidu will build city-level platform ecology based on the world’s leading autonomous driving Apollo, intelligent cloud, Baidu Brain and other technologies and capabilities, with autonomous driving, vehicle-road coordination and smart city as the development process, adhere to the concept of intelligent, automatic, connected, activated and efficient, let AI into every corner of the city.


Next, Baidu will take the lead in transforming China’s two most representative mega cities: Beijing and Shanghai with its AI City solution!


In Beijing, Baidu will cooperate with Beijing municipal governments at all levels to focus on intelligent upgrading and renovation of super-large and mature cities. Previously mentioned new capabilities of DuerOS, Apollo unmanned cars and AI City are all supported by Baidu Brain. From 1.0 to 2.0 and then to 3.0, Baidu brain continues to evolve from the technology layer to the application layer, and has penetrated into the three basic industries of the national economy.


1. Agriculture: AI remote sensing DRONES to monitor pests and diseases


Zhang Yujun, a farmer in Panjin, Liaoning province, has contracted more than 2,000 mu of farmland. Once diseases and insect pests occur in these farmland, if they are not prevented and controlled in a timely manner, they may cause a large area of production loss or even loss of harvest. By using the agricultural remote sensing intelligent monitoring system cooperated by Baidu Cloud and Maifei Technology, and introducing edge computing, maifei detector is equipped with AI capability to implement intelligent monitoring of crop diseases and insect pests, and complete precise scientific application, which can reduce pesticide usage by 50%. This will not only mean a significant reduction in the cost of growing food, but also greater food security and less pollution to the natural environment, such as soil and water.

Using Baidu’s unmanned autonomous excavators can reduce labor costs by 40% and increase project benefits by more than 50%.

3. Medical treatment: AI fundus screening all-in-one machine to prevent blindness

That is, almost every minute someone in our country goes blind.


If these patients can be detected in time, they can be saved and blindness avoided. However, at present, professional ophthalmologists in China are mainly concentrated in hospitals in big cities, and there are few ophthalmologists in grassroots and community hospitals.


Baidu has been thinking of ways to solve the problem of the lack of grassroots ophthalmologist, today Robin Li announced: and Zhongshan ophthalmology cooperation developed baidu AI fundus screening all in one machine!


The machine can help patients quickly screen for a variety of fundus diseases, including glaucoma, macular disease and diabetic fundus, and detect the risk of blindness as early as possible.
