Atlassian has released “Open DevOps,” an integration of Jira, Confluence, Github and more

Atlassian has released Open DevOps, their new platform offering that integrates Atlassian products with partner products. Open DevOps combines Jira software, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Opsgenie into one project. It can be integrated with other tools, such as GitHub and Datadog, with minimal integration.

Open DevOps connects to Jira Software, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Opsgenie by default. If a Jira Issue key is included when pushing changes or merging branches, the Jira ticket is automatically updated. The new “Code” TAB displays the repository associated with the project, with the most recently updated repository coming first. While the default repository tool is Bitbucket, you can switch to other tools, such as Github or GitLab.

The Deploy TAB will automatically pop up data for any deployment that includes the Jira Issue key. By default, it integrates with Bitbucket Pipelines, but like source code repositories, it can also integrate with other CI/CD tools such as CircleCI or Jenkins.

The On-Call TAB integrates with the Opsgenie call schedule to facilitate outgoing calls in the event of an event. Confluence is also embedded in Open DevOps, providing templates for documenting projects such as change management, operations manuals, and post-event reviews.

At release time, there are third-party applications that can be integrated into Open DevOps. This includes applications for security, testing, feature tagging, observability, and CI/CD. For example, integration with DataDog allows Jira tickets to be automatically created based on the DataDog monitor.

Jira’s automation engine also works with Open DevOps. This can be used to create automated rules for * if this, then that*, using their drag and drop engine. For example, you can create automated rules that fire when a new pull request is created. This can be used to automatically update the corresponding Jira ticket, including the details of the code changes.

Because Open DevOps integrates all relevant work updates into the Jira Issue, it can gain insight into the health of the team through metrics. This includes metrics such as deployment frequency and cycle time. As Suzie Prince, head of DevOps product at Atlassian, shares.

Jira automatically calculates how often your team ships value and how this frequency changes over time, so you don’t have to manually coordinate tools or bother your operations team.

Open DevOps is available to all Jira users. Prince says there will be more third-party integration in upcoming releases.
