After upgrading Android Studio on my main device at home, I found that my One Dark Theme didn’t work. There is also no custom theme in settings-Apperarance, and uninstalling plug-ins or restarting AS will not work.

Temporary solution

A search turned up another Android Studio bug that will reportedly be fixed in the next minor release.

But Google also offers a temporary solution:

  1. rename< Android Studio installation path >/lib/Under theGson - 2.7. The jarFile forGson - 2.7. The jar. The disabled.

  1. Restart the Android Studio

The default Windows AS installation path is C: Program Files\Android\Android Studio

For Mac, it’s /Applications/Android Studio. App /Contents

However, it is important to note that the next update may need to restore the original file name.


After the restart, I did see the theme return to normal:
