preface

Many people want to improve themselves through study, but there may be two problems that hinder their effective improvement:

  1. Learn what?

  2. How to learn?

This paper will start from their own learning practice, aiming at these two problems, give their own set of learning process. In the specific process, it will also involve the skills of using various tools.

Collect learning objectives -Doit

He introduced a concept he didn’t understand. Sometimes, we might immediately search for what the concept is. But a lot of times, we might not have searched at the time, and after a while, we forget about the concept, and it remains a blind spot.

If the concept itself is useless, that’s fine, but if the concept is, in fact, important and valuable to our work or life, then we’re missing out on an opportunity to improve ourselves.

According to the evolution of our knowledge of things, learning can be divided into four stages:

  1. Not knowing that you don’t know — being uninformed and fearless (being curious)

  2. Knowing you don’t know — Dancing to the Ears

  3. To know that you know — to know that you know (to use it consciously)

  4. Not knowing that you know — whatever you want (internalized into the subconscious)

Here I use a GTD tool: Doit to help me collect all the things I don’t know but are interested in

First of all, it’s cross-platform, both on PC and mobile. Second, it’s very easy to collect. You can press a shortcut key on your computer and the collection bar will appear

Collecting on your phone is just as convenient

There are many other functions of its own, you can explore, but for me, its most important function is: anytime, anywhere, instant collection

After collecting the items, we can dispose of them:

  1. Delete useless targets

  2. Merge similar goals

  3. Break down the hard goals into a set of sub-goals

  4. Classify them into different lists for later follow-up

When you have a to-do list, is there still a problem with what to learn? Go through the list one by one. And often, as we go deeper, we discover that these superficial concepts are just the tip of the iceberg, and we find more and more unknown concepts, and our target list gets bigger and bigger. As for how to classify and manage these goals after collecting them, it depends on your own personal practice. There is no perfect management method, only one suitable for your own management method.

In fact, about how to know what they do not know, how to efficiently collect learning objectives, there is also a good way is to establish their own information sources (some quality websites or public number), rather than passively waiting for their own encounter do not know, it is better to take the initiative to find do not know.

Search for learning materials -Google

For example, if I now confirm that my goal is to understand “TextView rich text,” I will open Google and start searching for relevant information

There are generally two ways to use Google search:

  1. To change the host file, such as old D blog (https://laod.cn/hosts/2017-google-hosts.html)

  2. Use VPN, such as Xing Yun VPN (http://xy.yyq1.net/), which has browser plug-in, intelligent agent, I think it is still good.

About Google search techniques, there are mainly several:

  1. Double quotation marks,” keyword “, for an exact match

  2. * is used for fuzzy matching

  3. Use site to search for specific sites

  4. Use fileType to search for specified file types. It is useful to download information

The above is only a brief introduction, more see Google search skills (http://blog.jobbole.com/72211/)

Here are my search results for “TextView rich text”

3

Create learning tabs -Evernote

In search of relevant articles, the next step is to read these articles, generally limited to 3 minutes, the purpose of rough reading is:

  1. Do a quick scan to get an overview

  2. Decide whether to save evernote for further intensive reading

In coarse reading these articles, found some articles are very good, very enlightening, this time, the general practice is saved to bookmarks, but, here I recommend using impression notes (https://www.yinxiang.com/), for the following reasons:

  1. Cross-platform, collect everything. There are browser plug-ins on the computer to quickly collect web pages, wechat service number on the mobile phone to quickly collect articles on the official account, and email can also be forwarded to your Evernote email. Whether it is online articles, original long-term goals, temporary memos, reflective diaries, weekly work reports, monthly summaries, annual plans, or technical blogs collected and organized by yourself, all can be collected into Evernote for unified management. No management, no record. Recording is only the first step of management, without follow-up, feedback, correction, will not have a good effect.

  2. Fast editing, compared with similar Youdao Cloud notes and notes for knowledge, its opening speed is the fastest, sometimes want to record something on the computer, for knowledge to open half a day

  3. Powerful full text search, as long as it is stored in evernote, even if I forget what the title is, as long as I remember any word in it, I can quickly search

  4. Support for custom search criteria, such as tag, Created, notebook, and other filter criteria

For me, Evernote is an aggregate collection tool. Once you save it, you can refer to it whenever you want.

If Google is my library, then Evernote is my little bookshelf.

Just now, I found some good articles on Google, and then I used the Browser of Evernote to cut and save them to my own Evernote. It is recommended that you use hidden ads (rather than the body of the page), so that all the collected articles can be formatted in a unified way, which is convenient for further processing.

Well, after I’ve read a lot of articles related to “TextView rich text “and collected a lot of them, I’ve got a basic idea of the concept. The next step is to read these articles intensively. Intensive reading is unlimited.

  1. Do topic reading and compare relevant articles horizontally

  2. Mark important information about the article for future review

At the beginning of intensive reading, first create a “TextView rich text” label in your tag library, and then label the articles you just collected.

No label, no collection

If you save evernote but don’t tag it, it doesn’t really matter. There’s not much difference between bookmarking everNote and going to Google.

As for why labeling is necessary, my reasons are as follows:

  1. Convenient thematic reading. When reading the same label and different articles, we will make a horizontal comparison and have a more comprehensive and profound understanding of the label.

  2. Prevent interruptions. For some of the more difficult labels, may not be able to understand at a time, may need a few days, or even longer time to learn. Once you’ve collected evernote and tagged it, you can read it slowly one by one. If you stay in your browser, you may close the article and never open it again. Most of the time, we may read a lot of articles, understand a lot of concepts, but these concepts are mostly floating on the surface, really let oneself say what is not clear. This is because the understanding is not deep, tagging, reading multiple times, will help to deepen the understanding.

  3. For future review. On the one hand, learning itself is a process of constant review, without review, there is no learning. On the other hand, I feel a sense of achievement when I see my label library getting richer and richer. This is to visualize my learning results so as to promote my further development and form a positive feedback mechanism.

In general, there are two schools of management for Evernote: notebook stream and tag stream.

Here, I think the notebook is a relatively fixed attribute, similar to an abstract class, while the label is a relatively flexible attribute, similar to an interface. Meanwhile, I think the information I write and the information I collect from others have completely different meanings for me, so my management method is as follows:

  1. The laptop manages its own original information

  2. Tags manage the information they collect

My notebook system (relatively rough, a dozen or so, generally not much change) :

Note: Evernote itself does not support drag sorting of notebooks, so I will sort notebooks by numbering them myself.

In addition, it is not recommended to use notebook grouping, because after folding the notebook, we may not see or go to see, let the notebook always in their most easy to see place.

My label system (relatively detailed, more than a hundred, often need to adjust and merge) :

Tip: In fact, the label here is the target of our early collection, but the label will be adjusted monthly

  1. Merge similar tags

  2. Refinement collection of notes too many tags

  3. Delete unused labels

Currently, I have too many notes in the “Android” TAB. I am reconstructing it. Generally speaking, it is advisable to keep the notes in a TAB below 40.

But regardless of how you design your notes management system, keep these three tips in mind:

  1. Search over Classification

  2. First according to their own planning from the top down preliminary design, and then according to their own practice from the bottom up and constantly reconstruct

  3. A good note management system should be flexible and extensible, not rigid. Do not set up artificial knowledge boundaries for yourself, and do not be limited to your career

4

Organize learning brain map – curtain

As you peruse the notes collected by Evernote, underline the points you think are important so that your next review will be more targeted and efficient.

When the intensive reading is complete, it is time to structure the collected labels, that is, to draw a mind map. Here I recommend using a mind mapping tool: Curtains (https://mubu.com/)

Reasons for recommendation are as follows:

  1. Easy to organize structured content, build clear thinking logic

  2. Editing experience is very good, I feel more fluent than XMind, the drag and new theme are very convenient, write cool to write for a long time

  3. Cloud document storage, unlike XMind, is a local storage, not afraid of loss, but when editing it is best to use a local client to edit

It went like this when I edited it:

The resulting mind map looks like this:

Take study notes -CmdMarkdown

Once you have a mind map, the next step is to refine the sub-topics in the map, use Markdown syntax, and organize them into an essay that you can share.

To explain what Markdown is, it is a markup language in rich text form. It makes it easier to insert links, images, code, lists, etc.

You may say, our various rich text editors can also achieve this, but various rich text editors are not cross-platform. What is written on douban platform will be copied to Zhihu.

Here, we summarize the advantages of Markdown as follows:

  1. Plain text, so highly compatible, can be opened with all text editors. Let you focus on the text rather than the layout.

  2. Easy format conversion, Markdown text you can easily convert to HTML, e-books, etc.

  3. Markdown’s markup syntax is extremely readable.

More details, please see to the writers Markdown newbie guide (http://www.jianshu.com/p/57f75b68687c)

However, Markdown is only a syntax specification, so how to use Markdown to write requires special tools. In fact, there are many tools or platforms supporting Markdown, such as Simple book, cloud and so on.

Here I use the Markdown editor is homework tribal CmdMarkdown (https://www.zybuluo.com/cmd/).

I’ve used It for a while, but It only has an online editor, not an offline editor. It doesn’t support TOC-generated directories, and most importantly, it doesn’t work with Evernote. However, CmdMarkdown can be quickly exported to Evernote, which facilitates the unified management of my information.

CmdMarkdown for editing and Evernote for management.

For example, the article I sorted out with CmdMarkdown according to the mind map is as follows:

(Edit area on the left, preview area on the right)

The final effect of evernote is as follows:

Other people’s articles are other people’s knowledge precipitation, only their own to sort out, in order to understand this knowledge point more profound.

But there is one caveat:

I think I understand is not true understanding, to understand others is true understanding! Teaching is the best test of learning!

Here, I will just share this study notes to the Jane book platform, welcome you to correct or supplement. Address: Jane book TextView cheat (http://www.jianshu.com/p/12fe89964b11)

By sharing your study notes and taking them from the Internet, it is more meaningful to have others check your study results than to do it behind closed doors. Also, the thought that someone will read your paper will make you more rigorous in your writing, reducing randomness and pushing us to produce higher-quality notes.

In addition, human beings are social after all, and we also long for others’ recognition. Sharing can also increase our sense of achievement, especially when we really help others. A person who writes notes quietly may persist in writing dozens of posts, but it may be easier to stick to it if he writes a blog in public, with the feedback and approval of his readers. Writing, after all, is a lonely journey.

Ok, so much written, estimated that everyone forgot about the previous, here again comb through the whole process:

In fact, sorting out brain maps, recording articles and sharing blogs is only the first step in a long march. The later practice, review and update is the source of the strong growth of the whole knowledge system.

Finally, I would like to share with you one sentence:

The way ahead is so long without ending, yet high and low I’ll search with my will unbending.

If you think this is a good article, you might as well give it a tip
