The SOFAStack (Scalable Open Finanical Architecture Stack) is a financial level distributed Architecture independently developed by Ant Financial, including various components needed to build a financial level cloud native Architecture, which has been trained by Ant Financial for more than a decade. SOFAStack announced open source in April 2018, and gradually open source SOFABoot, SOFARPC, SOFALookout, SOFATracer, SOFAMosn, SOFAMesh and other components.

Distributed transactions have always been a project of great concern to everyone. Today, we have some good news to tell you who care about SOFA:

Ant Financial will contribute over 12 years of technical capabilities to the community building of Seata, a distributed transaction.

Thanks, Fescar ❤ ️

Hello, Seata 🚀

After the upgrade, we’ll go back together.

Recently, Fescar, an open source distributed transaction, changed its name to Seata. The project address on GitHub is changed to:

https://github.com/seata/seata.

The background of brand upgrading

In January 2019, the Alibaba middleware team launched the open source project

Fescar (Fast & EaSy Commit And Rollback), works with the community to build open source distributed transaction solutions. Fescar’s vision is to make the use of distributed transactions as simple and efficient as the use of local transactions, and gradually solve all the problems developers face with distributed transactions.

After Fescar became open source, Ant Financial joined the Fescar community to participate in the construction and contributed TCC mode in Fescar version 0.4.0.

In order to create a more neutral, open, and ecologically rich open source community for distributed affairs, the core members of the community voted to upgrade the Fescar brand and change the name to Seata, which means: Simple Extensible Autonomous Transaction Architecture is a one-stop distributed Transaction solution.

Alibaba and Ant Financial in the development of distributed transactions

Since 2007, Ant Financial independently developed distributed transaction middleware

XTS (eXtended Transaction Service) is widely used internally to solve the problem of cross-database and cross-service data consistency in financial core scenarios, and is finally presented in the cloud product of DTX (Distributed Transaction eXtended). And relying on ant financial cloud external output.

At the same time, Alibaba middleware team released TXC (Taobao Transaction Constructor) to provide distributed Transaction services for the group. TXC was transformed into products in 2016. Global Transaction Service (GTS) is formed and exported by aliyun.

In January 2019, alibaba middleware team launched the open source project Fescar (Fast & EaSy Commit And Rollback) to build a distributed transaction solution together with the community. Fescar’s vision is to make the use of distributed transactions as simple and efficient as the use of local transactions, and ultimately to apply to all distributed transaction scenarios.

Hello, Seata!

This time, Seata and Seata will bring together their distributed transaction technologies and practices to create better open source distributed transaction solutions.

Seata’s immediate plans

Since open source, Seata has had more than 7,000 stars, 55 ficOLin-coding developers add to make the community ecology richer and more vibrant.

Seata combines alibaba and Ant Financial’s expertise in distributed transaction technology, and has accumulated extensive practical experience in new retail, cloud computing, and new finance scenarios, but there is still a long way to go to realize the vision that applies to all distributed transaction scenarios. Therefore, we decided to create a completely neutral distributed transaction organization and hope that more enterprises and developers will join us to build Seata.

Seata Roadmap

In May 2019, Seata will be ready for production with the addition of server-side HA cluster support.
