This is probably the first article in China detailing how to install pop! _os + win10 dual system, and the reason of writing this article is very simple, because I was filled with waste a great deal of effort, not just because I’ve never been myself to install a computer system, but also because of such a can meet the demand of my tutorial, if lucky enough to be finished, I decided to put the dual system, It’s a good thing to leave it for someone who needs it later.

Why install Linux

First of all, why install Linux system, rather than continue to use my virtual machine as we all know, the performance of the virtual machine is restricted by various aspects, even if the computer performance is very good, in the Windows 10 environment, it is inevitable that there will be a variety of bugs (such as the virtual machine started black screen written in the previous article), Solving these bugs would waste more time, and the virtual machine would slow down from time to time. Now it seems to me that Linux is much more convenient for AngularJS and SpringBoot production environments, so installing the system will increase our productivity. This makes the installation of a new Linux system has become a pressing matter of the moment although it has installed the system, but I probably know, the basic process of the U disk installed system download system image -> U disk -> to modify the BIOS, set the boot U disk boot -> set partition -> installed system

Why use POP! _os?

When you first see Pop! _os, you may not even know what he is, here is a brief introduction to pop! _OS is a Linux kernel based system, which is similar to Unbuntu in that it is the same visual operation interface and command line instructions are mostly the same (at least for the time being, there is no difference). The difference is that POP! _OS is very friendly to dual graphics cards, especially NVIDIA graphics cards. It has most of the NVIDIA graphics card drivers, which allows us to install POP in our game! _OS system can still be connected to the external display, to achieve expansion, but like Unbuntu, often graphics card driver problems, resulting in the dual system installed computer can not be connected to the external display

Pay attention to

Official also give the installation of the double tutorial system, but not very friendly with small white https://pop.system76.com/docs/dual-booting-windows/ if you can read this document, or can consult the official documentation, So I actually described below are for you some extra, and if you can directly access the links to view the video https://www.youtube.com/watch… This video will be much more detailed than my article. I suggest you watch the video directly, which will make the process of installing your system much easier

First, download the image

Here’s Pop! The official website of _ OS, you can go to its official website to download the corresponding mirror https://system76.com/pop

The second part will write the image to the USB disk

First you need to go online and download a writing tool. In this case, I’m using Rufu

https://rufus.ie/

Attached is the address of its official website. After downloading from its official website, it will be a file in the format of.exe, which can be opened directly for use, as shown in the figure

After inserting the USB flash drive, select the image we just downloaded and leave the other options as default

Here is an official screenshot, then click Start, and wait for the progress bar to read

The third step, set the U disk to start, modify the BIOS

Here is different from person to person, actually take myself for example, refer to the link: http://www.dnxtc.net/zixun/zh… If my computer model or brand is not the same, we recommend Baidu directly “their own computer model” + “double system installation”, or “their own computer model” + “U disk system” and other keywords can be

1. Restart the notebook and press ESC to enter the BROS interface, then press F7 to enter advanced mode for WinL0 installation. 2. And then press Enter and then you can turn Secure Boot Control enabled to disabled. You’d better turn it off here, or the USB flash drive might not start. 4. Continue to change the Boot Option# 1 option to the UEFI boot partition with Windwos Boot Manager, and press F10 to save the setting; 5, Insert the U disk boot disk, restart it, select ESC to identify the U disk boot item, select here must select the U disk with the beginning of UEFI, and then enter the PE (although I should attach the picture above, but I always think it is not good to directly steal someone else’s picture, so the link is attached)

Step 4: Create a new partition to install POP! _OS, set partition size, partition type

Here’s Pop! Tutorials to the official OS documentation

https://pop.system76.com/docs…

And there are extremely detailed Win10 + Pop on YouTube! _OS dual system partition installation tutorial, I was referring to this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch…

Create a new partition from diskhttps://blog.csdn.net/flyyufe…

(2) After entering the disk management, we can see the situation of my partition. Then select the disk you want to partition, right-click and select “Compression Volume” as shown.

(4) Then we select the size of the space to be compressed. Click Compress:

(5) Just a moment, the space will be compressed. An available space appears as shown in the diagram. This is the space we just compressed:

(6) Note: disk partition here on the line, do not need to go down

And then after that we use the USB flash drive to pop! _OS installation interface,

The first thing that pops up is a bootstrap dialog box. After you select a language, be very careful

In this interface, be sure to select the option Custom (Advanced), otherwise you will not install a dual system, but Windows disk formatted 23333, the middle option means you have installed POP before! _OS, which can be reinstalled

From the space just divided (should be shown as gray square part), create 512MB of space, as our boot (later set to boot), if the original Win10 system EFI partition is big enough, you can also directly use the original,

Create a 4 GB or 8 GB partition in the format of SWAP for swap partitions

Set all of the remaining gray space to the mount point, which is the capacity of the subsequent system

PS: My partitioning explanation above may not be correct, but it will help us solve the problem of installing the system. I think this is enough for the time being, and we can go further if we need to later.

Then click the green check mark

Return to the previous screen

Waiting for the refresh is completed, you can see that these three partitions are just used in the Win10 environment in the gray partition set up, click on these small colored squares, according to the type of their corresponding type

When finished, a black checkmark will appear on the colored rectangle, and the button in the lower right corner will turn red, indicating that the installation is ready to proceed all the way

Finally, after a day of hard work, from 10 in the morning to 7 in the evening, the dual system is finally the whole good, the fly in the ointness is the need to boot screen using ESC to select POP! _OS to enter, otherwise the default will go directly to Win10, but that’s enough!

As you can see, after the successful installation, for my computer, the default is directly installed NVIDIA graphics card drivers, and so far all the drivers are fine, thank you, that’s all

Postscript:

Finally, I want to thank Yu Xuan students when I installed the system to give me all kinds of enthusiastic help, no Yu Xuan patient science and careful guidance, my double system will never be able to install successfully, also can not have this article, also want to thank Zhang Xishuo senior help us to find this excellent system
